Anyone know what is happening with the petition? It seems fairly static now, at around 2240 signatures.

Is there a plan to forward this to Psion?

John,

I haven't heard anything about the petition lately and don't know if it's been forwarded to Psion. I do have the feeling that it's probably a moot point since the NBPro has already been released with CE.Net. I suspect it's not selling very well as it is and doubt that Psion is interested in sinking more money into it to add a Symbian OS.

Just my opinion, of course.:)

Just for the sake of accuracy here, and so that nobody is left in doubt, the petition was never intended (or expected) to persuade PT against releasing Netbook Pro using CE.Net. It is a petition to suggest that the Symbian OS should be considered as an alternative.

The work is still going on, and the Petition is being followed up with a presentation of a business case as indicated earlier in the netBook Pro forum.

I think a figure above 2000 when discounting for a few double signatures etc is a *very good figure* and a good basis for presenting the "mobile professional" aspect of the business case.

For two main reasons the business case has been a bit delayed; one is time (as usual) and the second is that around Oct-Dec last year we found it wise not to disturb Psion's market campaign on the netBook Pro CE version. It was around that time Psion channel managers engaged with their VARs and distributors about the netBook Pro and the last thing we want to do is to appear disruptive and insurgent, because those VARs and distributors - and of course Psion itself - are our target group as well.

As Julie pointed out afore, neither the petition nor the business case is intended to question the Win CE.NET version. In fact, we believe that the more WinCE.NET that Psion sells the higher the likelihood for a Symbian version (!).

Again, despite having been quiet for a while, the work *is* ongoing.

As you have already shown with your post, you can also help to keep this topic alive in this and other forums.

cheers
Martin Maxwell

BTW: I think this thread belongs in the netBook Pro forum. Jim or Julie?

Martin and Julie,

I think I misstated my position on the petition. As Martin wrote, I'm sure Psion's marketing people already have their hands full postioning the NBPro in the CE world. Assuming that the NBPro is selling well enough with CE to provide some profits for Psion, they would likely be more receptive to the idea of adding some variant of the Symbian OS than if they are still stuggling in their main marketplace. We can only live in hope.:)

I will move this to the Netbook Pro section since it has a better chance of stimulating more interest there.

Despite being a little bit busy with a few textile exhibitions, I am following your thread with great interest... and I am sure I am in a very good company;)

I would not be surprised if also a number of PT officials are doing the same too...
