My T3 has suddenly begun freezing with "Fatal Alert / Fatal Exception" messages. Reset doesn't work, nor does the hard reset (amazingly). In fact, both of these yield another "Fatal Alert" message. The warm reset, (learned from this forum...thank you), does work, but I don't know how to solve the problem. Occurs randomly; started with trying to assign categories in appointments, now happens in Adobe Reader, Java, Real One, World Clock, you name it. Still doing it after a hard reset and reinstallation. Only programs from PalmOne are on the device.

Any advice?:confused:

The only suggestion I'd have is to check all (if any) birthday reminders and set them for less than 6 days (5 or less). The T3 has some issues with the Birthday reminder feature turning on the machine without aid by itself and this could be related.

If you haven't set the reminders then pull any SD cards out of the slot and see if that's what might be causing the issue. I've gotten a hold of a bad SanDisk card that won't read in anything an has caused minor issues but I determined the failure early enough and might have experienced similar issues if I'd left it in long enough to discover.

My 2Cents.

Does the problem persist following the hard reset and before the reinstallation? Have you installed the T3 ROM update?

Unfortunately, the answer to both questions is yes. I did a hard reset, reinstalled with Palm programs only (from the installation disk). I went to an event, event details, tried to assign a category to an event, and got the "Fatal Exception" message. A plain reset also gets a FE message. Warm reset brings it back to life.

Sounds like a hardware issue, bad ROM, bad RAM, bad something. Is it still under warranty? Sorry, but the problem with your T3 is out of my scope.

Thanks, all, for the replies. Yes, the T3 is still under warranty, purchsed from Dell. Anyone had warranty experience with them?

My T3 is on its way back for replacement for two reasons;

1. The screws on the right hand side of the lower part of the body were falling out. Literally. The lower one has just disappeared completely and the second one is extremely loose and needed to be pushed and turned back into place. I've never dropped or abused the device - this just happened of it's own accord.

2. I was also getting lockups but they were not so random. It would lock every single time I did a search for data. Without fail. It would also lock wihen I launched certain programs such as Noviremote or Adobe. It wouls also lockup if I tried to open an attachment in Versamail. Again, this was each and every time.

I tried all sorts of uninstallations, soft and hard resets, rom upgrade etc but all to no avail. In a strange way, the disappearing screw gave me the excuse to send it back that I needed. Fingers crossed that the replacement is a little better.
