Was all that valuable information for Psion users simply thrown away? Please tell me it wasn't MikeMcC 08-19-2002, 04:43 PM The various Psion Place boards have been replaced by this single Psion related board and it appears that the original messages can no longer be accessed :-) jriemerm 08-19-2002, 04:58 PM I was afraid of that. It's a real shame. There was a wealth of information in those boards. Sneezer 08-19-2002, 04:59 PM This is a most unwelcome change. I checked the other boards (Palm, PPC, Handspring) and they have also been subject to the same thing. A complete loss of all the previous posts and accumulated knowledge. I for one do not anticipate using this board for much anymore. It is most unfortunate that this has come to pass. These boards were one of the few things that kept me looking at PDAStreet, but no longer. The loss of all the previous posts is perhaps the worst, as there was a great deal of data and solutions contained in them. Now it seems it is lost forever. REEHANJ 08-19-2002, 05:36 PM I too am dismayed at this change. Why do people do this. Something works perfectly well and then they go and try and 'fix' it. All that useful info lost forever - I really used to rely on that. Above all I couldn't even log in !!! and had to re-register....who's responsible for all this? W1hy didn't we get a warning? What happened to consultation?!?! makoman50 08-19-2002, 08:10 PM           what on earth possesed them to remove all th info on those boards. for a relatively new person like me they were invaluble not to mention helpful for everyone. i hope we can either resserect the old messages or we can do what we must to start over again and make a new one. tears makoman wanman 08-20-2002, 03:38 AM I can't believe that all that useful information has been lost. What has happened to Yan? Has he been ousted? Why is Mike pretending that he didn't know anything about this when he is the Moderator of the Psion forum? Surely someone must have told him? Why were we not emailed a week ago or something to warn us all (they have our email addresses after all !!) This can't have been a last minute thing done overnight. This has been a complete balls up !!! Re the previous posts, surely they should be still on a disk somewhere. Can they not be copied and placed on a web site somewhere with a search bar for information purposes. How confusing is the new set up now? Rather than having seperate forums for 5mx, 7, Netbook, other we now have one so that all posts. Someone should have their knackers chopped off for this !!! Si     diem 08-20-2002, 04:08 AM Hi folks, I've not gone - I only just re-registerd. I have been aware that this change was coming - nobody can have missed all the bugs present in the old system that was creaking under the load, and was desparately in need of replacement. I'm sorry I didn't warn everyone, but I did not want to cause a flurry of discussion when I knew that those threads would be lost; we need the site owners to see the shock they have caused the community. On the positive side, the new software is infinitely better featured than the old system. Its going to start with one board per PDA, and others will be added as demand arises (I know its there already!). Regarding the old content, I am as dismayed as everyone else that it is not available. I am lobbying the site owners to make it available via a 'search-only' interface - I urge EVERYONE to use the 'contacts' section of the site to register your unhappiness - mine is only one voice... yan MikeMcC 08-20-2002, 04:15 AM <<What has happened to Yan? Has he been ousted? Why is Mike pretending that he didn't know anything about this when he is the Moderator of the Psion forum? Surely someone must have told him?>> I was told on Wednesday of last week that we would be moving to a new message board system (though I didn't know exactly when this would happen) and I was asked to confirm whether I was still intersted in moderating. I indicated that I would like to continue in whatever format the new message board was implemented. It was my understanding that all members would be advised (email or announcement?) prior to the actual change and this obviously didn't happen. I was as surprised as anyone when the old boards vanished without warning. While I may perform the function of forum moderator, I am a Psion enthusiast and participant the same as anyone else and it certainly wasn't for me to announce publicly what PDA Street's intentions were - I am not part of their staff! wanman 08-20-2002, 04:42 AM Apologies Mike, Red mist and all. Not every day you come in to find one of the best (and probably only) Psion forum sites completely obliterated without any warning what so ever. Have written a stern memo to PDAStreet. Wonder if they will reply??? Anyway, hope we have not lost too many members as it will be pretty lonely around here without any messages !! Si fladda 08-20-2002, 05:45 AM This board has been kicked in the teeth. I suggest that we should vote with our feet, and use the public Usenet newsgroups for Psion related stuff. i.e. comp.sys.psion.misc At present Google provide an excellent method of posting and searching on the psion (and other) newsgroups. Whilst there is no guarantee that Google will continue forever, there is a much higher probability of usenet posts surviving for posterity, than with a propriety web-based messaging board. Especially so as there are lots of places that record all Usenet posts (although many of these are government intelligence agencies!) I suggest that we use Usenet rather than this board. At least our posts will not be junked at the whim of some American marketing 'droid. Ralph MikeMcC 08-20-2002, 06:01 AM <<This board has been kicked in the teeth.>> Do you know, I honestly believe that the vast majority of Psion users who have a problem post a message asking for help, without even considering a search of previous discusions to see if their problem has been solved a dozen times before. <<I suggest that we should vote with our feet, and use the public Usenet newsgroups for Psion related stuff.>> I participated in the Psion newsgroups for quite some time before discovering the Psion Place boards, as they were, and I am still active in the newsgroups - the two are not mutually exclusive and there is a lot of expertise in the newsgroups. <<At present Google provide an excellent method of posting and searching on the psion (and other) newsgroups>> I used Google once while I had problems with my ISP's news server. It required a genuine email address and I used a Yahoo one - the amount of spam I received from that one posting via Google was incredible! <<I suggest that we use Usenet rather than this board. At least our posts will not be junked at the whim of some American marketing 'droid.>> I doubt if changes such as we have just seen are likely to be a regular feature. Angela 08-20-2002, 07:51 AM Shocking! I searched the boards a lot and all that information helped me out so often! Of course I did send an email to PDA-street about this. mboot 08-20-2002, 07:59 AM I've written to them too - FYI my mail is attached: I write to register my opinion on the removal of old posts as part of the move to the new forum system. My situation is simple - if the old posts return, I'll use PDA street probably every day, otherwise I will not be using your site in future. PDA Street
