hello,
usually the up/down button zooms in/out. Is there any possibility to change the in/out-zooming into up-map/down-map??

No.
Would have been more useful if the iQue had a four-way navigator key. Otherwise, you would still miss left-map/right-map.
As it's now, the jog wheel also works as zoom in and out.
ESC can be used to go back to the current location, if you've panned the map elsewhere.
you can use your finger to pan around the map too, and then, as said, use ESC to return to your current position.

Turn your finger around and use the dorsal (upper) side of the nail to touch the screen and pan the map. Myuch quicker thqan any buttons. And it doesn't leave any finger print grease on the screen as it could do if you touch the screen with the soft tip and nail edge of a finger.
I use this tap also to quickly change back from turn preview (especially the pre-preview) when I need to see the map at once approaching an exit.
Thank's a lot, iQue friends. It's always good to known that you can get an answer for each question in this forum!

For Königsberg/Kaliningrad, did you find any maps to put into the iQue? I'd be interested. It's a short leap from Öland where I am in the summer. Having learnt russian in the army, we always held as special regard for what was coming from Kaliningrad and it would be interesting to see what has become of it now.

Jonasolof,
no, I just had the Basemap installed. No further maps needed. Within my Königsberg tracks there are a lot of kilometers "of-road" in russian army aereas. I was asked to drive a russian tank, BRT soandso, nice friendly people, I've met!
Maybe there are ferryboats from Öland to Klaipeda and, perhaps up from this summer, you can get your entry visa at the lithuanian/kaliningrad oblast border; since now you need a hotel reservation in Kaliningrad or Svetlogorsk/Rauschen (wonderful cliffs, a lot of amber to be found) or elswhere through a travel agency to get a visum. B.e. it would be nice entering the Kaliningrad oblast via "Kurische Nehrung", that peninsula belonging to both parts, Lithuania and Russia. Marvellous countryside.
For further informations you can contact me.

Joachim,
The use of GPS receivers in Russia has been the topic of discussions. I have several links in russian on the topic. To conclude, some say consumer grade receivers are not covered by licensing rules, others say that it is illegal to determine the location of state property with an accuracy better than 30 meters (cruise missiles). Fooling around in military bases in Kaliningrad with a GPS seems to be the ultimate test of how the rules are implemented. My guess is that that a map showing device such as the iQue is good because it basically serves to show where you are in relation to the map instead of a lat long showing older GPS which would show the exact location of a specific object. Now this is only as it would appear of course - but maybe it works in practice:)
I tried to ask Charles in Kiev but I think that he is discrete for good reasons. What were your experiences? You dind't end upp in jail obviously. Was your GPS ever the topic of inquiery?

Oh, not in jail, I was dumped in muddy waters (November, extrmely cold) and had to drink several "sto" gram (100 gr) of vodka..:-))
No, seriously, I was invited by the russian army's trade union (Yes, that exists). They were interested in opening their military bases in Kaliningrad Oblast for tourism: parachuting, flying jets, off-roading. Besides: they were interested in the Emap and the technics and offered me a lot of detailed Army maps.
I have no idea whether those GPS devices were/are forbidden, but even the military, I discussed with, didn't do anything but beeing interested in the functions of the GPS.
Here you'll find maps for Palms of Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk or Almaty. (http://spbmap.chat.ru/)
And:
LaserMap for Windows CE (http://members.tripod.com/lasermap/lmwce1.html)

Try this:
CORSAR (http://corsar.xol.ru/gps/)
The 4th-last link on the right side takes you to the city-maps page, where you can find Kaliningrad clicking the lettek K.
Do you read russisch?

Kaba.
Da/yes/jawohl - I read russian.
These are vector maps. There is a really cool thread on the site on how to prepare maps on your own to be displayed in mapsource format on garmin GPS devices. The author starts with CDs from the company "Ingit" which contain maps from all over Russia. He then processes the Ingit map through a sequence of softwares until he comes up with the desired img file. He also shows how this transformation can be done automatically.
This is the reason they can have this large number of maps from regions and cities. There is also a list of vector maps of countries. Unfortunately I can't spend more time looking at it now but thanks a lot for the link.

No I don't think so.
What is presented is IMG files for the whole of Russia, regions and cities. These would be vector maps that can be used on Garmin devices including the iQue. Now Kaliningrad ain't Orange county, but it is close to some of us. In april, virtually all eastern european countries that did not belong to the USSR but were under soviet rule will join the EU. The former Soviet Union will be our closest neighbour, just as Baja California is close to you. Maps have been extremely hard to come by, because of Russian paranoid fears. So the link that Kaba gave is a turn around, the first time that a supply of digital maps have been made available for that huge region that I am aware of. I have never seen it mentioned on sci.geo.satellite-nav. The site was set up only last year.
Maybe they even have a McDonalds in Kaliningrad nowadays :)
Even with a log in my own eyes I can see logs in others':D

You should check the link that Kaba gave. Loads of vector maps for Garmin. I just have to understand how to use them.
