Hi,
I was just wondering whether is it possible to hook up several Psions over a LAN. I suppose you're able to do some limited networking to Windows based systems using VNC and what not, correct?
Just wondering as I'm setting up home network and would like to enable the networking between all the different platforms that I have.

hai,
yes, it is possible & it works very good. i use my mbook (via pcmcia-lan-card) & the mc218 (via irda-lan-eye) in order to connect to the ftp- & telnet-servers on my w2k-notebook.
i also play around with connecting to my lan-webserver. unfortunately vnc on the psion is very slow (maybe because it is a java-application) and therefore more a toy than something you can work with.
greetings,
oliver

I've got two 7Books, a Zaurus SL-5500, a Compaq CE all on the network, sometimes all at the same time passing files between them, internet, e-mail etc (all using Wi-Fi).

Hi,
I am very intrigued about this. How does one go setup such a network?

Get an Access Point first (I use a Netgear ME102).
You must decide if you want to use WEP. If you are not bothered about WEP then any access point should do. But if you are going to use WEP then you'll have to research the WiFi cards your Psion can use and see if they are compatible with the WEP of the access point you want to buy. Even if they say they are compatible find out how they implement the keys (it took me a whole days of trawling the net to find that I the key had to be numeric for an Apple AirPort card to connect to my ME102).
Then connect the access point to your broadband and off you go!
If you haven't got broadband then use a PC as an internet gateway with a modem.

There's some very useful information regarding wireless networking on Ian Silvester's website, including a compatibility list of WiFi cards suitable for netBook.
http://www.silvester.org.uk
I'm very pleased with my choice of the Buffalo card specified on that list - it's working superbly with 128-bit WEP with my Netgear DG834G modem/router/access point.
WiFi netBook = seriously cool!

Hi guys,
At the moment my Netbook is wified through a Cisco Aironet card. I'm not sure whether thats WEP enabled or not but at the moment, the priority is to allow peer to peer networking over a WIFI network, between Psions and perhaps a Windows PC.
NetbookBabe, thanks for the link, I'll definitely have a look at it.
