I have a sony vio notebook that does not have a serial port just usb. Therefore i bought a belkin serial to usb adapter model # F5U409. I have windows xp . I cant detect the blackberry in the cradle for the life of me. I checked device manager and the belkin adapter shows that it should be installled on COM 4. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the desktop manager 2.1 and also tried service pack 2. I tried to lower the port speed and make sure the "enable serial to usb converter" is checked in the serial settings in the desktop manager. Also , i tried to reinstall the drivers for the usb which shows xp compatiable. I checked to make sure i have nothing running in the background on my pc that has to use my com ports.Does anyone have any ideas. I want to throw this usb adaapter in the trash. I noticed on a different website that blackberry only supports 4 different usb adapters.

1. usa-19qw (keyspan)
2. f5u103 (belkin)
3. pl-2303 (prolific)
4. sl0707-078 (socket)

Does anyone out there sware on one of these adapters above that really works? Does this mean i should try the belkin f5u103 instead of my F5U409? HELLLLLLP!!!!

I am using the Keyspan Serial to USB adapter with Windows XP Professional. It works.
