Hello,
I've got this error on my Palm m125:
MemoryMgr.c, Line:3061,Chunk over-locked

I hot synched it last night, put new batteries in, then got this error:
Fatal Alert
Fatal Exception
Reset

then it gave the MemoryMgr error

I haven't loaded anything onto my Palm recently, in months actually.

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.
Is my Palm dead? Time for another?

Also, I did try resetting cold and soft. The Palm won't power off. I also tried Hot Synching last night but it won't.

Latest:
I removed the batteries, left them out for about 5 mins, put them back in the Palm and it powered up. This is great but I'm still concerned as to why this even happened???

Changing the batteries may have caused a tiny spark, which messed up the RAM. It works ok now, after you pulled the batteries out, because the RAM got erased when there was no power.

When you HotSync again, your data will come back. There should be no corrupted files, so you will be ok.

Thanks for your reply.

Is this common? I'm just trying to learn.

Anything I could install/do to prevent something like this from happening again, like a Norton System Works for the Palm?

Thanks,
Lisa

There is a post on PalmBlvd on this problem every now and then, but I don't think it's very common. I had a PalmPilot Pro and a Visor Deluxe, which use AAA batts, for a combined 2 1/2 years. I had this happen to me only once when changing batts. I don't know if I had static on my fingers when I did it that day. Good thing you HotSync'ed before changing batts.

There is not much in terms of error correction. You can try dbScan to check your DateBook data. Errors here cause strange HotSync behavior.

My Palm M105 is now giving me the same "fatal error" message. It happened after I Hot Synced.

However, taking batteries out for extended periods of time does not solve the problem. The memory is wiped clean, but as soon as I sync again the problem occurs once the sync is complete.

Any other suggestions?

WayMikeC,
This is caused by a corrupted program that got HotSynced from the Palm onto the PC here's how to fix this:
1) Hard Reset. Check if ok.
2) Move all files from the Backup directory on the PC to another directory, e.g. Backup2
3) HotSync. Your Datebook and AddressBook data will be back. Check if ok. If not, use dbScan to clean up: http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/dbscan.shtml Check if ok.
4) Move a few files from Backup2 to Backup, then HotSync. Check if ok.
5) Repeat (4) until problems re-appear. Then you will know approx. which files are bad. Delete them from the unit. Your problems should be gone forever.

I tried installing the dbscan software to my palm but it failed because I don't have an SD card. I'm not sure about this but don't think I have any cards in my palm.

Do I need a card to install this?

I'm also looking for general files for my Palm m125 but I don't find many for this Palm?

I learned I can't upgrade the OS from 4.1 either. Is this true?

Thanks for your help!

lisaonthenet,
If the SD card slot in your Palm is empty, you don't have an SD card installed.

dbScan should be installed into RAM anyway. I think there is a setting in the Palm install tool to save to RAM or card. Remember to set it to save to RAM (internal).

The m125 ROM can't be upgraded. OS4.0.1 is as good as it gets. There are some bugs in 4.0.1 which can be patched with 3 files that you install in RAM. Look under Support Downloads:
http://www.palmone.com/us/support/m125/
Unfortunately, these patches disappear if you Hard Reset, so you would have to install them again. OS4.1 just fixes those bugs permanently - oh well.

What do you mean by "general files"?

hello,

once again i decided to hot synch before changing the batteries on my m125. thank goodness i did. i changed the batteries, then got the same fatal error as last time. the soft reset doesn't help, either does the hard reset. when i turn the palm on it asks me if i want to erase files. i respond no of course and the palm doesn't power up.
last time taking the batteries out for 5 mins then putting them back in took care of this. this time it isn't helping.
this sure isn't a good experience for a relatively new palm user.
sigh.

thanks for any insight,
lisa
