Palm Modem not found

Help! Just bought a Palm modem to pick up e-mail from an analogue land line in the UK using a Freeserve account.

I can't connect to the server and am getting Error message "Modem not found 0x1106". Sometimes I can hear the modem trying to connect sometimes not.

The Palm Modem preferences were set up for the US with Init string "AT&FX4". I've changed the country to the UK but can't find any info on what the Init string should be. Could this be the problem?

The script AT&FX4X3 will allow the dial to complete in the absence of a dial tone.

Thanks for your help -- but it turns out that I had selected the wrong connection. Apparently in order to dial out via the PalmModem you have to select "Serial to Modem" not "PalmModem".

Silly me...

Now that I am reminded of it I made the same error the first time I set up my modem about a year ago. Glad your working!
