Does anyone know whether this phone will work with a 5mx. Has a built in modem but no IR so I would need to get a cable. Don't want to shell out for one unless it's going to work?
Not much detail on technical specs of phone apart from references to:
Data capability: IS-707 Circuit Data
Over the air service provision: IS-683A
This mean anything to anyone?
Thanks, Rev

Does anyone know whether this phone will work with a 5mx I have no idea. I cannot even find anything about this phone on Samsung's website (looking under Australia) and a search with the model number you quote comes up 'not found'. You might get an answer from either your network provider or a mobile phone shop.
If the phone came with software to use with a PC, that would indicate that its modem can be used with a computer, rather than just WAP.

Gidday Mike,
The info says it can be used with a computer or PDA and a data kit is available for it but it is rather expensive and I don't want to buy one without some guarantees it will work?
And I quote:
"Your Samsung phone is capable of sending and receiving digital data and fax calls when connected to a computing device (desktop, laptop, handheld, palmtop etc) running Windows 95, 98 or NT.
"Your Samsung functions just like a typical modem on your PC, enabling you to use wireless data involving a wide variety of Windows software applications . . ."

From the URL you posted, it seems that the 'Data Cable' is available as an accessory, presumably without having to buy a complete PC connectivity kit. Mind you, data cables themselves, particularly from the original manufacturer, can be very expensive - I've just bought a Nokia one to use with my laptop which doesn't have an IR port. You might find an online source of phone accessories that is cheaper than Samsung themselves. In the UK, we have www.cellsavers.co.uk
Provided your network supports data calls, and they have enabled your phone for data, using the phone with your Psion should work OK.
You need to include a Null Modem Adapter (or null modem cable) between the PsiWin cable and the phone's data cable, together with any gender changers and serial adapters necessary to get it all connected.
