What if a box wider by 2 inches than 900 (but 9 long) could run run XP ... Tablet no less. I have my hands on this baby now.
Testing it, only.

The EZ-Tablet, made by ECS. www.ecs.com.tw.

4 lbs, a slate model (30D, has a keyboard that connects when I slide the screen that has the processor behind it & is like a 2 reader's digests glued together.

I can get this for under 1k. 20-80 gb hd.
The hibernate-to-on time is 5+ seconds! Close to Instant on.

No running around for software, for cards; it has a 4-in-1 slot running an SD card , a MMD card or CF card.../.

2 USB ports. a digital pen. 800 mhz.
Battery: 2.5 hrs. But a longer one is said to get 5 hrs.
Minuses to come.
Check out Google -> EZ-Tablet-> reviews

Stirring up the HPC pot!

Also, Fujitsu -> P1000 or P1100. Has XP OS, no Tablet OS, so no DigiPen, just stylus. Width is 6", but 9". You should be able to see this one in stores in US. About $1100.

NOt so the EZ tablet. The test one I have is in Chinese, so I quess they know I return it. I will tho my great friend is a Chinese woman, who shall check it out next. ECS does sell all English versions.

All,

At end, I note new 900 may sustain all PPC softw.
Big + -- tho not Xp SW.

Below is a response I made to a person running a MobilePro Forum on www.pocketpcmag.com; this response is relevant to this topic of HPCs (some having WinCE OSs like MobilePro and some having XP OS, like the EX- tablet & the Fujitsu P1000. These machines are migrating down).
Surprisingly, PocketPCs are improving, too. Some models are getting bigger screens: 4" in diagonal. 480x320 pixels. 400mhz (as fast as Mbp900).
If one wears magnifying glasses (of 2 sorts -- clipping onto eyeglasses or PPC [even Mbp]), s/he can then have a Mbp display, maybe bigger, in a sense. Get a foldable keyboard to attach. Click the command ("fit to screen") on PIE. And the PPC changes.
Read more below.

John,

The potent points in your article seem to suggest you could benefit from a small XP computer: see my post on FujitsuPc P1000 & esp ECS EZ-Tablet 30.

They have all the advantages of plenty of SW & (almost) instant start-up & (almost) Mbp size. And write on screens. EZ-Tab has HandWrit Recognition, too.
Maybe P1000 has glare resistance.
3. You could supplement the Axim with magnifying glasses: either clip-ons to eyeglasses(maxiaids.com) or a clip-on to your PPC (see ad at top of pocketpccity.com -- for officeonthegogo.com, I believe); if u don't get anywhere, I'll look up an exact link for you, brother.
4. Another supplement, while you are magnifying the screen, is foldable [ clip-on] keyboard. Check them out over Web, eBay, CUSA, BBuy. A sturdy one would help.

Again if u had a Mbpro w XP & 800 mhz & 20-80 g of HD (the EZ-tab has or mayb P1000 has more), would you not forget your WinCE or WinCing machines?

PS. I may post this on the main line to get us both some notoriety -- better to get the issues about the magnifying glasses, the smaller XP machines before the Forum's visitors.
MOREOVER: WinCe.net 4.2, since it is in some way the basis of the PPC 2003, gives the up&coming Mbp 900 the ability to run PPC 2003 SW, I believe. [but does this beat XP software.
Yet ya can't put a M900 or EZ-tab into your shirt pocket (and use it even if ya have trifocals like me as long as ya put on your clip-on magnifying glasses and set your P IE browser to "fit to window [screen]".
Let the debate begin.
Many thanks.
