Sending e-mail

Is it possible to send e-mail with a Palm Modem without having to hotsync? I need to be able to collect data at a remote location and then send the information in an e-mail to a specific person. Can this be done with the standard Palm Mail program and a modem?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
