I recieved my Palm 125m this JUNE What is up!? strider_mt2k 10-19-2002, 07:41 AM My m125 came down with this exact condition. 1 year and 1 month after I bought it. Try tapping considerably lower when in the lower lefthand corner. Even with all the m125 updates installed (no less than three!) Here is a utility that will help determine exactly where you stylus is being tracked by your m125 (or any Palm OS machine). The only thing I can think of is a screen/digitizer replacement. $65.00 at ********hightech.com just for the part. Here's the utility: I am interested to hear your results (or anyone with this problem) schmuck 10-21-2002, 12:54 AM Hey.. This is a normal procedure with the M1xx series. I went thru three of em before they go it right... Hopefully, you purchaced an extended service plan with the unit. I had a heck of a time getting Palm customer service to assist me. Thankfully, Staples is better with their clients than Palm Inc. Another option however.. Have you installed any third-party apps lately. I do know hat some applications ( Fast CPU ) for example sometimes have negitive effects on the digitizers in the M1xx series. If so, start disabeling/deleating applications ( after backing them up of course) and hope for the best. The whole prob mystifies me.. with palms reputation for good products & quality control, how in the hell did they loose their edge with this series ? Digitizer probs, processor probs, Color bit rate.. you name it. Prehaps this is why Sony's market share is growing.. and Palm Is Slowly fading away. mmencke 10-21-2002, 12:59 PM I have had the same problem a few times since i got my m125 in april and using the digitizer in the welcome ap has straightened it out every time. seem too simple to work but it does DrMud 10-21-2002, 01:27 PM Try using AutoDigi2 (PalmGear.com) for the 12 hour demo to see if it is a benefit. If you have times when the digitizer is really hard to get to there is a work around you might wan to consider. Change the Category of your Welcome app from System to "Unfiled." Work on that category so that you have Welcome and one other app. When you beam and app to a Palm the new app goes to Unfiled and brings up the Unfiled Category on your Palm. Now Welcome will be near the top and you will be able to tap around the screen until you launch Welcome. It can be a big help when you can't input in the Graffiti area. DrMud strider_mt2k 10-25-2002, 06:54 AM Newpen 1.4 (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/newpen.shtml) is good for helping this situation too. It's also excellent for graffiti input when it's dark. This latest version comes in both stand-alone and Hack versions. DrMud 10-25-2002, 09:32 AM Looks like a usefull tool but I don't believe that NewPen specifically addresses the malfunction of the digitizer. Doc strider_mt2k 10-25-2002, 10:51 AM Oh, it doesn't. I just found it useful for getting out of the silk screen area that had also become compromised on my m125. Thought it might help. Sorry for any confusion. There is this utility that helped me a bit, called DigiFix (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/digifix.shtml) . That in combination with the Palm m125 updates (http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/) kept my m125 in line for quite a while. DrMud 10-26-2002, 09:54 AM I would like to hear from anyone that has used AutoDigi2 on the 125. The reports of digitizer problems on the 125 are not too common. It is difficult to know what the issue is. If we start getting feed back from user that have used AutoDigi2 we may begin to see cause and effect. Thanks. Doc strider_mt2k 10-26-2002, 10:30 AM Not too common? With all due respect doctor, you don't appear to have been following this issue! The vast majority of m125-related posts in the half-dozen forums I follow are about digitizer problems, hands down! The issue has been well known and well defined since the m125's initial release over a year ago. As I mentioned in earlier posts, there is even a Palm m125 update that attempts to specifically address this issue. Please feel free to compare AutoDigi2, a program being sold, and only provides a limited demo period, to Digifix which is quite free and offers more features. DrMud 10-26-2002, 10:35 PM You’re right Strider. I went back on some of the 125 threads and the numbers are serious. In the past with Palms the digitizer issue could fall into one of three categories. 1) Software. 2) Cable. 3) Trash between the digitizer and the body. It seems clear with the 125 problem that the issue in native to the unit and not all that similar to the previous manifestations. As to DigiFix I have run SureTap and DigiFix on two Palm Vs with disappointing long term results. Neither of these apps in the versions tested last fall would actually correct the digitizer drift without human intervention. It was my hope after reading the information on AutoDigi2 that we would at long last have an app that was, to use an over used term, be more proactive. I provide repaired and refurbished Palms to students that have learning disabilities and it is important that the Palm remains reliable and not require the student to take action to correct digitizer errors. DrMud PS. Thanks again Strider. I work a 60 hour week and then care for my 89 year old mother (birthday tomorrow) so I don't put much time into reading posts on Palms that I don't feel familiar with. Now I know more about the 125. strider_mt2k 10-27-2002, 04:56 AM No problem. It is my lack of a life that gives me time to research these things! I work in a technical field, and tend to follow stuff like this anyway. I have my m125 up for sale now (as-is) becuase I'm not sure if I want to take a chance on buying a new screen/digitizer (one piece on the m100 series) for fear of it being a deeper hardware problem. Heck, I was even putting a mod together to install an m130 battery into an m125, using the UC connector for charging! I called it "the m127 modification" :D I also have to admit that obtaining my m130 has lowered my interest in that project too! PDA Street
