Guys,

This link (http://www.picstop.co.uk/securedigital.htm) contains some SD cards I found in the UK. Have a look for me and add any comments. The 5th card down is the piece of shite I currently have in my iQue. I'm looking at one of the 512Mb cards. As you see there are three horses, the SadRisk Ultra II, the Dane-Elec, and the Lexar. The SadRisk and Lexar are within a whisker of each other on price, but the Dane-Elec is way back. It looks tempting, but cheap does not translate into good, no more necessarily than expensive translates into good. I think I know the ins and outs of the respective cards. Notably, there is nothing listed for the Toshiba. I popped into the Panasonic shop in the mall near where I work, and the 512Mb card they sell is about £269 which I think is way over the top.

What do you think. Carrying on looking for other makes or go for one of these?

Remember, this is MY opinion <grin>.

I have used a Sandisk UltraII for months with no problems. In reviewing this forum, the problems with Sandisk APPEAR to be related to the non Ultra II. I find the performance great and stability outstanding (Ique s/n 9028xxxx).

Since it appears that price is a consideration, then I would go with the Sandisk. Can you get a guarantee from the store that if it doesn't work you can reutrn it (explain to the store the issues that you feel might appear).

It is interesting that the 256K UltraII is 88GPB. I paid 66USD with free shipping and no sales tax (Amazon). When I lived in the UK I used to expect that prices were the same number in GBP and USD, making the UK about 50% more expensive. It sounds like the difference is even greater today than it was in 2000.

I can't believe you're even considering SanDisk. Do us all a favor and buy something else.

I have Dane-Elec 512Mb card, it comes up as a Panasonic in Card Info, and the VFSMark came in at 614. Paid £160 in a shop in Tottenham Court Road, 10 minutes after getting quoted £330 for a Panasonic 512Mb card in a different shop.

Not had any problems with it and it's lightening fast :D

If you have any good friends in the US you might want to try this link (http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecsplash/shop/detail.asp?dpno=173736). It's listed as a 32x card which according to most of what I read on the forum should be a panasonic. But I make no guarantees.

mcvpjd3 - which shop in TCR did you go to? If you don't remember the name can you describe where it is, using the tube station as the reference point? GPS coordinates would be even better!

The rest of you: I will not buy a SanDisk, I will not buy a SanDisk, I will buy a San...

Surprised as I thought Dane was Toshiba...

Bookie is there any way you can go in person with your iQue, and test the Dane - if it comes up as Panasonic then its a no brainer at 117.50...

Can't remember the name of the shop, but it's the one right beside the dominion theatre, co-ord are

N51 31.009 W0 07.834 according to Mapsource.

I specifically asked if they were the Fast SD cards and they assured me they were. I bought it, went outside, put it into iQue thinking here we go - they better take this back if it's crap, and then was pleasantly suprised with the VFSMark speed...

If you do get one there, let me know how much for - just so that I can kick myself for paying £160...

I use a sandy disc 256 and a panasonic 256. The panasonic was about $10.00 US more.(in the base exchange) VFS was much better on the panasonic--in actual use I can't tell any difference. Might just be me but I think I have much fewer resets with the panasonic. could that be possible?
