My NetBook touch screen is not working. It looks like it has a wet spot on the bottom left side. Has anyone replaced a screen ? How hard is it?

Hello Ron,

I did the repair twice and it takes half a hour to do so. You can see a part of the dismantling at http://www.netwinder.org/~craign/netbook/insides/index.html

Touchscreens are hardly to get as a part and very expensive, but Pulster in Germany can deliver one for 199 Euro, see www.pulster.de

Good luck and best regards from Pieter.

Could you give me a step by step on how you do the screen repair?

My NetBook touch screen is not working. It looks like it has a wet spot on the bottom left side.

Have you tried this? It saved me once, but didn't work the second time. I let a hairdryer blow on it for 48 hours.

Martin,
Believe it or not the blotch has gone from 1/6 of the screen to about the size of a dime. I pulled the batteries and put a light nearby for a little bit but mostly have just let it sit. I am going to wait to try it again when the mark appears all gone.
I am not sure what happened but I had it camping in a travel trailer and there was a lot of condensation. Maybe some got "under its skin".
How did yours happen?

Similar circumstances; heavy tropical rain in Kuala Lumpur. The netBook was in my briefcase, but I hadn't closed it properly so some rain leaked inside.

I saved it this time using a hairdryer.

The second time, same thing. But this time I couldn't save it completely. There was still a patch of humidity in the bottom right corner which apparently created a short circuit for the touch screen, and whereas the touch screen still worked on the left side, it became more and more misaligned the closer you were to the wet patch. I lived with it for a while but ultimately had to replace the screen.

cheers
Martin

My water blotch has evaporated. The touch screen is getting a bit more responsive. I pulled the batteries and will try to leave it alone for a while.
