There has been an announcement of OPL for Symbian OS v7 - UIQ, which is the user interface platform used in phones like the Sony Ericsson P800, P900 as well as Motorola A920, A925 and BenQ P30.

More UIQ phones are expected from Motorola (A1000), L&G and Arima, a Taiwanese manufacturer.

There is hope that OPL apps originally written for Psion PDAs will need less changes, largely due to the availability of touch screen, when moving to UIQ compared to for instance Series 80 and Series 60. It has already been stated that OPL for UIQ is closer to Series 80.

Furthermore, OPL for UIQ comes with several important OPXs that Psion and Series 80 programmers are used to.

Lastly, there a release of the first OPL runtime for Series 90 (Nokia 7700 etc) is coming nearer.

cheers
