i had a problem with my memos not backed up during my hot syncs. i was advised both by a forum member and by the palm support to completely uninstall and later re-install the desktop.

when i tried to uninstall the desktop. it says that the operation could not be completed due to a system error (access denied). it asked if i want to reinstall or quit. i chose re-install and it brought me back to the previous screen where you choose whether you want easy install or custom install or uninstall. i tried to intsll it, again, the same message (could not be completed.....)

after that there was a shadow on my desktop icon. and the palm desktop could not be opened. i tried to move it, but it just disappeared, now i couldn't find the desktop anywhere on my computer.

i of course tried to install the palm desktop again. not woring (with the same response/reason).

now i can't hotsync or add new applications because the desktop is missing.

what should/can i do?
is there anotehr way to uninstall the palm desktop program and later install it again (other than using the software installation cd)?

thanks for reading.
i'm quite frustrated here..

What OS are you using? The first thing I would try is perform a system restore. I run ME.

Sorry. I'm surprised Mac doesn't have something like a restore program.

Run Disk Utility in your Utilities folder and choose Repair Permissions. Then search from the finder (command-f) for Palm. In the Search Results window, click on Kind at the top of the column. Select all aliases, applications, Palm folder (in Applications folder) and the Palm Desktop folder (in Application Support folder) and drag to the trash. Log out. Log in. Delete trash and try reinstalling Palm Desktop from the CD. Then let me know how it goes.

Good luck.

Oops. Also delete both Palm HotSync folders.

i can't thank you enough. it's a miracle!!!

anyway, my application softwares files are gone (i put all of them in the add-on folder and forgot to move them before all the deletes), but still in the T3. it should me able to get them back when i do my hotsync as soon as i get home tonight.

this forum has been nothing but VERRY helpful to me as a PDA newbie (this is my first PDA). i was using the nokia 9210 communicator before this.

THANK YOU ALL!!
