if i remove RAM module from the netBook and insert it to the Series 7, would it be the 7Book? would it work with WLAN cards (e.g. Buffalo 11Mbps Flat Wireless PCMCIA Card (WLI-PCM-L11GP) (http://www.buffa******.com/wireless/products/airstation/pcmciacard.php)?).

thanks.

I take it you mean "ROM" and not "RAM"?

Whether this works or not will depend upon the version of the Series7 you have. If it is an early one, it used a different motherboard to the netBook and will present compatability problems so is best avoided.

If it is a later one (build 754 or newer? I can't remember the version numbers!) it should be the same motherboard as the netBook and should present no problems whatsoever. (There was a later revision of the netBook motherboard, but this is irrelevant here.)

The "personality module" or "ROM" module usually found in the right hand slot under the screen hinges is interchangeable between the S7 and nB. A nB with a S7 ROM in it will boot up as a Series7 (no CF card required to load the OS), while a S7 with a nB ROM in it will bring up a nB splash screen and ask for the OS.IMG on the CF card.

The 32MB RAM module for the nB is apparently OK in a machine with either ROM, but the S7 16MB RAM module will not work alongside a nB ROM.

I have a S7 with a nB module and have been happily running it with no problems at all for the last 18 months - 2 years or so, and yes, I run a Buffalo WiFi card on it.

Hope this helps

John

I don't think the motherboard is actually different in the earlier models, its just that the PCMCIA card slot doesn't seem to produce enough power. I have an early version 751 series 7 (two months into the initial production run) that converted to a 7Book without problems. I have a Buffalo wireless card that works flawlessly due to its low power consumption. I would certainly recommend trying the module before deciding it won't work, as the benefits are huge. Do you have any generous friends that may be willing to loan you a module for a test ?

no, there's no Psions around :(. i'm planning to buy S7 on the ebay (as a replacement to my netBook which is growing old :(. and also because of the fact that i haven't got S7 among my 6 psions :)), so thanks to the information you've provided me with, i would be able to clarify details with the seller.

i'm also grateful for the fact that Buffalo cards may work even with the old S7 versions.
