Batteries on Psion 5 went flat, i think. Everything else works except I cannot access System at all. Can I do anything to restore? Thanks for any help. Barry.

Hi Barry.

Everything else works except I cannot access System at all.

What do you mean by 'cannot access System'? Do you mean that tapping the System icon does nothing or that an error is thrown when you do so?

Can I do anything to restore?

Do you mean restore the data lost when the batteries went flat or restore the data previously backed up to a PC?

Hi.

Thanks for replying.

Tapping the System icon does nothing and when the psion boots it boots to a blank screen. The data is lost in agenda, for instance, and when I go to restore/sync with outlook the pc cannot not connect with the psion.

I am really worried that the machine is broken so any advice would be greatly appreciated (I am a brand new psion user by the way).

Thanks.

Barry O.

I'm totally confused by this - Barry, are you saying your screen is only blank on the System screen, but OK for all your apps? If so, how bizarre.

Putting that aside, it certainly sounds like your machine has hard reset, due to losing all power. That being the case, then it's likely that your serial link is set to off, which would of course prevent communication with the PC.

I think we need a bit more information before we can help here!

Hi.
Thanks for info. Have reset link as you suggested and can now synchronise agenda etc.

However, still cannot access system! Agenda, data, sketch, extras, word, sheet etc all work but still a blank screen for system.

Must be something basic (am i being thick?).

Tap the 'System' icon to bring the (blank) System screen to the foreground and then press Ctrl-Shift-Fn-K to see if that restores it to normality.
