Try Newpen. You can find it on most palm software sites (I know it is listed on freewarepalm.com).
Fairly simple and straight forward. Still requires graffitti, but it allows you to write anywhere on the screen. If you struggle with graffitti, watching the "ink" tracing of your graffitti strokes will improve you graffitti skills.
Can easily turn on/off when necessary.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the kind words Cartersymes.
I have found graffiti to be a very easy system for my use. I take a lot of notes in meetings and enjoy being able to look at the speaker and write. I also use Fitaly. Fitaly requires looking at the Palm while you tap but after a few weeks, you can tap very rapidly.
Applications that really allow you to write in your normal handwriting tend to be large. A couple that allow for more of a compromise between your own handwriting and somewhat standard printing are JOT (Palmgear.com) and TealScript. I have a link below to a good review of TealScript.

MyScript looks excellent, give it a try. The cost seems abit steep!
