I have a new 515. My first palm. I have of course put some junk on it while getting familiar with it. I want to know if I can sort of reformatt the main pda and when I syn, I will get back the basics, like date books and other stuff. There is one program on my plan main memory I want to keep with all of the information. Can I somehow sync this password file and date to computer to backup and get it back on my palm.

Also, what is a good file management program, maybe a free one? I have tried fileman and was not too impressed after reading about others.

Also, I want to change the alarm sounds, but can't seem to maneuver to a window that would allow me to choose different alarms (I have also installed a couple of different alarms)

Whew!

I now have 64mb card installed

FileZ is good for file management - and it's free.

All of the basic applications will stay on your Palm after a hard reset. After a hard reset all of the third party applications, i.e. "junk", will be gone. Now listen close: the next time you HotSync after a Hard Reset all the junk will be put back unless you do something to prevent that. You mentioned you have one app that you wanted to retain, well here is a method. Go on your PC and with Windows Explorer look for a Folder named "Palm." In Palm you will find a Folder with your HotSync name ( the name you assigned to the Palm). Click on that Folder and you will see a folder named "Backup", click and see all the junk you had on the Palm. At this point you should make a copy of the Backup folder named "ABackup" or any name easy to find. Now delete from the Backup folder all of the apps you no longer want. When you HotSync the wanted apps will be reloaded and not the junk. Be careful that you do not delete any files that you are unsure of.
The hard reset is as follows: Hold down the Power On button. At the same time poke the reset pin (or paper clip) in the reset hole on the back of your Palm. Remove the reset pin but continue to hold down the Power Button for 10 to 15 seconds or until you see the Palm Logo. Let the power button go. You should see a screen offering to remove all of your data if you push the Scroll Up button. Say Yes by pushing the top center scroll button and you have done the Hard Reset. If you put any data in the Palm after the Hard Reset it can confuse the HotSync Manager into Synchronizing when now you want the PC to reload the Palm. So no playing with the Palm until after the HotSync.

You change the alarm sounds from the preference option in Date Book.
