I wonder if anyone could recommend a good program that will give me maps of various cities in Germany( my main interest). It would be even better if it would allow me to connect my GPS reciever (Magellan 310) and use it on my bike or by foot. I've seen one..TomTom, but was a bit discouraged that it has a very nice program for Navigation for Windows handhelds, but not fopr Palm. Just one that lets me load a particular City from the PC and then be able to search for various streets and make a route would be handy. Thanks

TomTom CityMaps got a really good review in a back issue of Handheld Computing Magazine. The reviewer used TomTom with GPS specifically for his travels in Germany. Might want to check it out:

I agree, that TomTom is an option, but having tried it I can only recommend it for the low price.
If You want some really good mapping software for European countries, try this link:
www.swi-info.com
It is a french firm; but never the less they make exellent software and their service is very, very good and friendly.
Their price is higher, than TomTom, but you get far better details on the map, the details are outstanding both in the city and the countryside, the search function really works and the GPS function is very good. With Germany I think, You get Austria and Holland thrown into the deal, but I am not sure. An additional advantage is, that You can put the map and the software onto an expansion card, so You are not limited by the memory awailable on the Palm itself. TomTom can only do so, if You use MSMount or similar software.

Hi Thanks for the comments on Palm software for Germany. I hadn't heard of MapViewer for Palm OS. I downloaded a demo and it sounds good. For some reason, it only shows up in 1/4 of the window right now, but imagine thats some installation glitch. It looks interesting. I also have Marco Polo's Grosse Reiseplanner which says it has a Palm conduit. But its really useless. Nearly devoid of any useful features at all. No Zoom, search, index etc. I'm still looking for a decent navigation program for my laptop for Germanythat really navigates with voice messages and automatic reroute of a wrong turn is made. Ive tried Marco Polo, Route 66 and Microsoft Autoroute with no luck. Isn't there any software that make your laptop just like good car navigation systems without the huge cost. ( of course, it would be even better if it worked on the Sony as well.
