Two questions from a new 7 user
1) does anyone know if there is an english dictionary that can be loaded onto the Psion 7?
2) How can I make my address book come up when I hit the address book ikon on the right of the screen? At the moment, it only brings up a blank data file
Thanks in advance. Peter

Hi Peter,
Your first question is an easy one, although ER5 does come with a spell checker/thesaurus if that is all you need. TomTom sell the Collins English Dictionary for ER5 OS. They also supply foreign translation dictionaries aswell. Cost is 44.95 Euros.
Re your second query, I am not sure what you mean with this problem. I note you are new to the 7 series, did you own a Psion before this (such as a 5 series not 5mx?). The original 5 (ER3 OS) used Data to store it's contacts but the newer OS ER5 which is supplied with the 5mx, 7 & netbook, uses the new contacts program, which although similar, enables better syncronising capabilities with Office, etc. The database used to store data is stored within the system folder and is of a different format to the Data program files.
If you currently have your contacts on a Data file you will need to copy these across manually :-(.
If this is not your problem, then please post additional information.
Kind Regards
Simon

Dear Simon
Thanks very much for the help. It is the Collins full English dictionary I would like to install and so will look for it on Tom Tom.
On the second question, your guess is correct - my address book was originally created on a 5 series and I now understand why it can't be summoned up by the contacts icon on the 7 series. No problem - it would just have been a fraction quicker to get into my address book, but not worth copying hundreds of entries over manually.
Many thanks for the advice.
Best Wishes.
Peter

Hi Peter
Here's the URL for download of the Collins Cobuild dictionary, which is indeed excellent:
http://www.palmtop.nl/cobuild.html
With the regard to the address file issue, I did exactly the same as you, bringing across to my netBook my Psion Data files previously created on an S5. I don't particularly like Contacts, and only use it for quick access to e-mail addresses and SMS numbers.
I use one of the user-definable silk screen buttons on the left of the screen for quick access to my main address file in Data - once you're used to that it becomes second nature.

Peter,
There is a small utility called Datacontact at pnicolas.epocboulevard.com (http://pnicolas.epocboulevard.com) that automatically converts Data files to the Contacts format to save doing it manually.

I know you have already ordered the dictionary, but you may want to look here also http://www.necronomicon.co.uk/ at an interesting large dictionary called littlesense, which is quite vast yet little, £13 with Over 121,700 words

Thanks Mark - yesterday I received an email from Tom Tom saying my order for the dictionary had not gone through - so I still have a chance to look at LittleSense. Best wishes. Peter
