Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member to the forum, getting great info so far. I've read the FAQ quickly, but didn't see this answer, at least not in enough detail to get it to make sense.

I have the standard package IQue, no extra software purchased, etc. There is reference to Mapsource in the FAQ, and the fact that it is sort of similar, yet different to Mapinstall. I would like to be able to see my POI, and do routes on the desktop. I can't figure out how to accomplish this.

Can someone help?

Thanks!

go to Garmin's website and select software updates... you'll see a table of the various software available for downloads/updates.

Your iQue package did not include mapsource for your desktop (at least, I didn't think mine did). You can download the current mapsource 5.4 or the beta version 6.0.

here's a link for mapsource 5.4

mapsource 5.4 (http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209)

Once you have it installed on the desktop, you can do all those things you asked about in your post...

hope that helps...

Thanks a ton...I'll go there and try and download it.

Mapsource is only way to go. When you get to a point where you want to deselect previously selected detailed map to free up space for new area maps you will find MapInstall a real pain.

I've just started cruising around MapSource for the first time. I skipped the read me file. It seems like it might be useful, because so far the program makes very little sense to me. It seems sort of confusing. Would you concur?

Also, tell me more about the frustrations of MapInstall. I've altered my map list several times by just deselecting certain maps and choosing others. I only have the hard drive storage, so my maps aren't very extensive, but so far it has seemed quite simple. I have an SD card on order right now, will the make a big difference when I am loading more maps?

No, the procedure is the same, but moving around on the map is easier with Mapsource than with Mapinstall.
This is particularily true if you use the new beta version, 6.0.
