As I got a 2nd hand Series5mx by my father I tried to get it work. Unfortunately there's no action. It still didn't work when I changed the penlite-batteries.
Do I have to reset the PSION? If so, how should I do that?
Please help me out!
Thanking you in advance...
Jeroen
If there is no data on the Psion that you wish to keep, take out both the AA batteries and the coin cell backup battery for 15 minutes. When you replace them, the Psion will be reset to factory defaults, and all data will have been deleted. You will need to press 'Esc' to make it switch on.

I am having a similar problem....
I just got a psion 5mx pro from my dad since he was not using it anymore, it was completely clean with nothing on it. The only thing that was wrong with it was that the backup battery was dead.
Now here is my problem, I took out the two main batteries for a second, guess I was just curious.. Then I reinserted them, because the backup battery was dead I presume it did a hard reset. The problem is that it will not start properly now!
I turn it on and the only thing that happens is that I get the logo and the sound, then there is an error message in german:
"Auf der aktuellen CompaktFlash-card wurde keine gültige Datei gefunden"
I am not german myself but I think this means that the psion cannot find any good data on the flash card. So I cannot do anything. I have tried to start it without the flash card, but all it does then is to ask for the flash card.
Does anyone have any clue what I could do?
Would really appreciate the help...
thanks
just so you know, I have tried both a hard and a soft reset.. none works

This is a version of the 5mx only sold in the German and Japanese markets and it has its operating system in RAM instead of in a ROM chip. This means that if a 'hard' reset is performed in a 5mx Pro, the operating system is lost as well as all data on "C" drive. The machine then asks for the Compact Flash card with the operating system image to be inserted to reinstall the OS.
All other 5mx devices have the OS in ROM and it cannot be deleted or altered.

Sondra: Guess I just figured people werent interested
I fixed it by downloading the rom image file from the german psion homepage, then I had to use the windows hyperlink to upload it to the psion. It was actually that easy, only thing is that I want it in english and I still have not found a way to do that, people say it is impossible. I will tell you later when I have found a way
