This weekend we went out into unfamiliar territory for a drive. Saw some nice sites. Had the Que route us home. Set pref to avoid highways. Part of the route was that we had to cross the Potomac river. Well, from where I was, you have to take the interstate to do that.

The Que sent me to I-495 out of Tyson's Corner, VA presumably to cross the American Legion Bridge over the river. However, it had me take an exit just prior to the river. I was stunned, thinking there's nothing there. Sure enough, as the end of the ramp it said to keep going straight and return to 495. Great, got me, ha ha. After crossing the river it had me take the next exit. That's what I expected since I had told it to avoid highways. Well it did the same thing again. I went off course to get off the highway and it did make a new route.

I never figured avoiding the highway would mean taking every exit and just re-entering the highway.

Currently having similar problems trying to set up a route north from Lorton Va to Western CT. set for fastest route. Betty wants me to do several city streets. Off and on 495, 695 etcAlso when I try a second and third time it switches between the beltway west of city and beltway east of city. Also, when trying to miss any Baltimore tunnel the route past / through DC changes???

Could it be that there are too many optional routes to choose with no significant difference between them??

Any suggestions / ideas would be appreciated.
