Is it just my machine or are others experiencing contrast and brightness settings acting up when one opens their netbook??
2-3 times a day I have to reset my screen settings in controlpanel as the screen is unreadable....

Oh dear! Don't like the sound of that at all - I certainly haven't experienced anything of the kind on my netBook.
I hope you get it sorted.

Are you sure that this is not just the standard 'feature' the means that the screen takes a short 'warm up', leading it to get brighter during the first few moments after switch on.
nope...I have to go to control panel to rectify....looks like its off for repair.....I now have an intermittant problem whereby the bottom half of the screen has vertical lines all across it......
I can get rid of the lines but that involves a carefull "knock" on the back of it....Smells like a hardware fault.....Good job I have a backup series five otherwise I could just cry at the possibility of doing without my psion for ANY period of time

Good luck with the repair ... it sounds as if the screen cable might be loose or breaking.
I have a 5mx as my backup machine but I am hoping to get a new netBook soon so that my current (Ebayed one) can become my spare.

It took me several months to psych myself up to sending in my netBook for rectification of a screen problem, even with an MC218 for backup.

This has been happening recently on my S7. The most effective, though short term, remedy seems to be to press the casing at the top of the keyboard. This is where the screen cable is connected to the motherboard.

It's been happening on my 7Book too. But only since the change of personality.
I found that by using the advice elsewhere to press on the 'Ser7ies' logo above the '6' key the problem is sometimes fixed.
this suggests a cable problem?
My 7 is now over 12 months old and, I assume, subject to no more abuse than many others, tossed into briefcases, carried around rather carelessly etc.
As I am in Australia, I don't intend to send it anywhere in the near future, I will persevere until it becomes too bad then take the damn thing apart and fix it, I hope.

Mine does this too - about one in three openings. It has done this for ages (1 yr?). I find a careful tap on the lid sorts it out every time.
It does seem a hardware fault but as in my case at least, there is no sign of it getting worse I'm inclined to leave it alone.

PS My 7book conversion had no effect on this
