3870 infra red problem

I have a 3870 and an UBM laptop that I use to sync to. I try to set up thr infra red but it just wont pick it up. I know they are talking as I can send a file from the pc to the 3870. It just wont sense it at connection time with active sync (3.5 by the way). Any Guru with some ideas of what might be the cause???:(

i have the same problem with my 3760. i have windows XP with infrared and its connecting to evry thing. but it wont find the Ipaq
