I just upgraded to the Treo 300 with Sprint Vision. I can't get the factory SMS to work and have looked everywhere for an aftermarket application. Anyone know of one?

Treo300SMS by PDAApps is the only one that works for the 300!

I installed that, but didn't know what data to put in the setup fields... like his proxy or something like that. If you have it working what are your setting? Thanks!

I don't actually use the software because I'm a Treo270 user. However I've read several posts on the subject and how to get it working at www.treocentral.com.

Do a forum search for "treosms", there's tons of stuff!

Why I have it is so I can reply from the phone to e-mails and sms' that I receive. That is what I was doing with the MSN Pager that I had from Arch Wireless until I got the Treo. I will not go back to a pager by choice now. Too hooked on my Treo 300 from Sprint.

That is why. I have the IM's AOL, ICQ, MSN, and IRC. I use them as well. However, they are different from SMS. SMS does not require the user to be present to send them. They are like passing notes. Such as droping a note in a locker, or putting a yellow sticky on the associates monitor, or notebook, or briefcase, or what have you where they will immediately notice it. It is also inocuous and does not require an immediate responce or on going conversation. Where as the IM's require you be paying undivided attention to them. Otherwise you would be distracted. Can't do IM's in meetings. Can do SMS tho.

Think about it.

To get the Factory SMS to function you need to get the following from:

Treo300SMS by PDAApps is the only one that works for the 300!

http://www.pdaapps.com/TreoSmsApp/default.html

Pay for it. It activates the send function of the Treo 300 SMS factory program.

The settings I used for this are as follows:

Check the Enalbed check box for (Authenticated)

Put your Sprint Mobile Number: in the Mobile Number

Put your Sprint PCS Password: in

There is no PDAapps Proxy Password required.

Click Apply. If you have not received your license it will give you a period of time until it expires. Two weeks is what I think it was. I do not remember for sure. At the end of the Two weeks is ceases to function period.

To register it click register and enter the key that they send you for the application to unlock.

After that happy SMS'ing.

By the way the SMS function can send messages to other phones, other SMS clients, and e-mail addresses. It can receive from the same. It's addressing function is by Mobile Number, Email Address and Last Name Lookup from your Address book in the Treo. So this is pretty powerful. Like I said before I would not go back to a two way pager by choice.

The Transceiver that is used in each unit is the biggest difference.

One is for GPMS and the other is CDMA. Two different standards.

GPMS is the older standard packet system. CDMA is the newer G3 Network. Both have their advantages.

I use the CDMA G3 from Sprint. I have yet to exprience the slowness that others complain about. There are many apps out there that give an excellent performance via the Sprint network.

I do not know why everyone expects the same performance of a 1024 x 768 screen on a 200 x 200 at best resolution screen it does not happen. So do not expect the web browser to work well on normal websites. Now websites optimzed for mobile browsers that is a totally different ball of wax. Sites like AvantGo are excellent. Also any wab.name.com sites or mobile.name.com sites work better for those of us that use the Blazer Web Browser.

I do not have experience with the GPMS system. I have heard reports that until the newly released patch to it was sent out earlier this month that it was dog slow. I have yet to hear new reports on it since. I just know I enjoy using my Treo 300 and would not trade for any other cellphone out there.
