I have an older Sony 505 running Win 2K. The sync program instaled alright and the icon is there at startup.
If I plug the cradle in, it shows in device manager, but will not sync.
If I plug the mini-sync cable, I get no reaction at all.
I know the problem is with the laptop since all the cables work on the main computer.
Any suggestions?

Well the minisync cable might not show because there is no data being transferred to and from. If you try to hotsync, will it find the cable and palm?
Also, did you install the palm desktop adn hotsync from the garmin cd?
And lastly, when you right lcikc on the hotsync icon, is local usb the only thing that is checked (it should be unless you use another type in addition).
hope this helps

Try going to your Palm folder, probably C:\Program Files\Palm and find the USB_Driver folder. Open it and right click on the palmusbd.inf file and chose install. See if that helps.

No did not work.
I get a message from the iQue that it could not establish a connection and to check the setup.
The laptop also has a IR connection and that does not seem to work either.

Egmont:
You might try uninstalling Palm Desktop and reinstalling it.

Try opening the Device Manger. Check for yellow exclamations. If there is one, right click for Properties, Update Driver and allow it to search computer. If there is no yellow exclamation then try above again while trying to sync.

The cradle shows clean, but the sync cable does not show at all.

Well GMAN, you got it.
If everything else fails, try reinstalling.
This is actually the motto I live by and recommend it to my customers, doing networking and fun stuff like that, but here I drew a blank.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

Forgive me for asking a dumb question, but you do have the iQue plugged into the cradle before you turn on the computer don't you? (Or at least go to standby, plug in, then un-standby.)

Mr.CC
I was actually debating that. I own besides my mains, four laptops for various purposes in my working life, but this one is my travel unit. It is small, light and ideal for uploading and burning pictures, map with GPS and note keeping.
Still fast enough for for all of that and if it gets stolen, well I don't loose too much.
Thanks again

Ferd,
No, in WinXP and Win 2k you can "hot sync", meaning you can plug and unplug at will, the system will recognize added or removed components.
You don't need to turn the computer off.

The reason I asked is that, with my laptop, unless I have the iQue plugged into the cradle when I power up (or come out of standby or out of hibernate), it won't hot sync. If I plug the iQue into the cradle, then go to standby and back to power up, it'll sych just fine.

I installed the Delorme USB to serial program to connect the Delorme Earthmate GPS with the Fugawi and other software. Now the hotsync doesn't work! I uninstalled the USB to serial program but it still doesn't work.
I probably also need to re-install the Palm Desktop software. I hope that I don't need to do it everytime I use the USB to serial program.

Ferd,
I just pluged the sync cable in again, the laptop did not react, but when I hit the sync icon on the iQue it came to life and worked like a charm.
