Reset? Is it necessary?

When I was installing some software on my IPAQ, it kept freezing it. I had to reset my IPAQ everytime, and ending up loosing all
important info(tasks, contacts, schedules,programs). And after I would reset it, I would have to reestablish desktop-IPAQ partnership.
Is there way around reseting? Is there a way to reset without wiping everything clean on Pocket PC? Why do I have to reestablish partnership everytime?

It sounds like you've been performing a hard reset (either turning off the main power switch or using the "control-alt-delete" -- two fingers on the outer buttons and the stylus on the reset button). You should only have to use the stylus to soft reset the device when it hangs.
