When I plug in the external antenna and turn on the iQue I get a fatal air message form the iQue. When I tap the OK button the iQue does a soft boot. Every thing is OK after that and nothing is lost. This happens about 90 percent of the time( not always).
Has anyone else have this happen?
It makes no difference if I'm holding it in my hand or if its in the bean bag mount.

I live in Colorado also, and the air around here is almost always fatal!

Sorry...I couldn't help myself.

Seriously, it sounds more like a static problem than an antenna problem. Just before you plug in the antenna, touch some grounded metal in your car. Or better yet, if you didn't mount the antenna permanently (or at least make it difficult to take off) remove it and go into your home. Touch a metal switch plate or your refrigerator or stove or some metal to discharge yourself. Then plug in the antenna. If you still get the problem, then maybe it is the antenna or the iQue may be a bit goofy.

Do the equivalent of a release upgrade (backup, install the release software, restore) and see if that helps. If not and you believe the antenna is ok (works ok after the reset???) Then have Garmin replace the iQue.

Thanks donc13, I'll give that a try and see how it goes.
Would touching the tip of the antenna on metal in the car work to?

I don't think it'd help to touch the antenna tip, I've not seen static build up on the antenna itself. But if you're touching the tip (which you have to do to plug it in) any static build up in you gets zapped into the Garmin.

Of course, if you mean before you plug it in, but while you're holding the tip...you ground it...then yes, that'd be an excellent idea.
