i have tried out both aeroplayer and pocket tunes on my ique. while i find that both are fine (albeit with some issues), i have one nagging question that i cannot seem to find the answer to...
is there any way to get the screen to turn off while using either of these programs. i know that i can use the ique audio application, but i have some major issues with it:
1. it does not play variable bit rate files. which is really, really, really annoying.
2. no playlists, or any real fun stuff.

so, is there any kind of work-around to turning the screen off using either aeroplayer or pocket tunes?

I don't have my iQue with me at this moment, but iirc and you hold down the power button for a second or so that dims the screen. Otherwise, you can use the slider to minimise the brightness.

I use a grafitti stroke to toggle the backlight.
This can be set in the Preferences - Button - Pen option

As long as you're in Preferences, why not look at the easter egg?
go to General. The last line above the grafitti area specifies "Colors". Now on the right margin of that line scribble a tiny letter "O". Try to make it as small as the "C" in "Colors".

Wait a while and you might see a taxi cab. Cool huh?

I would, but upon checking the Sun and Moon app, it seems like I have to wait a few hours ;)

do you guys ever take a break from this forum??? :D

thanks for the input. i know i can dim the screen when i use these programs, but i was wondering if there was a way to turn it off completely? because that would be really nice :)

its also interesting that pocket tunes tells me unequivocally that it cannot control the screen on my device... bummer :( however, when i use the keystroke that is supposed to turn the screen off in pocket tunes, the green led starts blinking, though the screen stays on.... go figure...

thanks for the input everyone.

The only difference between turning the back light off with the Power button and turning it off completely is that in the first case the music would still play, which, I presume, is what you want. It would be nice though, if it could be done automatically.

They work fine on mine.

Also, are we saying that these players prevent the iQue from turning the screen off automatically, or is this another case of the Bright-iQ syndrome?

huh  what was the min and max bitrate that you set? i have mine set pretty high (160 - 244), so maybe that is the problem. shall now proceed to reduce the bitrate and see what happens...
and yes, these players prevent the screen from turning off - has nothing to do with the Bright-IQ...

sorry i checked my last post and realized that i had not made myself clear. i know i can turn the backlight off and still have the mp3s playing. this is not a problem. what i want to be able to do is to turn the screen COMPLETELY off - not just dim it

okay, problem solved. set the bit rate from 96-128 and now the variable bit rate files play fine. am going to do some experimenting with min and max bit rate to see what the limits are...:)

I think I have your answer! (And how PROUD of myself I am for stumbling upon it!).

I was holding my iQue, not in a cradle, not connected, playing MP3s on the headphones. After 3 minutes, the screen went blank, and it kept playing! The power button light flickered once every 10 seconds or so.

I played around with it some more, and lo and behold, the auto-off kicks in and MP3s can still play. You lose all control (volume, switching songs), but at least you get the "screen off" feature you've been looking for.

Glad to finally have contributed something,
Andy Weiss

AeroPlayer does not seem to support full screen on the Ique, while Pocket Tunes does. If this is really true, AeroPlayer stinks! So far Im sticking with pocket tunes

pavanmaverick,

I have MP3s encoded at 160, 192, 320 kB/s fixed, BR and VBR encoded at 100% quality setting in Musicmatch JBP 8.2. What 100% means is not clear but according to Winamp the bit rate varies between 192 - 256; the display shows 224 most of the time.

The iQue plays all of them just fine (using both QueAudio and PocketTunes 3.0.2). I don't know what limits you to 96-128 kB/s - (lack of) speed of the SD card? Did you try to run songs from RAM?

Or maybe it is the encoder; which one do you use?
