Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Help neede , what is the diference between a ique 3600 bought in America and Europe!!
Hi
I bought on Ebay a IQue 3600.
It is from America as I see those ones so cheap over there.
It has only the Cds for US to go with it.
My friend has told me that the Software mapsource City select will cost around 129 Euros at www.gps.24.de
I am not sure yet.
Can anyone tell me the difference between an american one and a German, European one.
Is there any diference at all.
I need to know that because than I rather do not take that IQue 3500 and have not sent it to me.
Does the American have a base map in American and the European a american base map ?
Please if possible explain to me all details that are involved.
I probably still can have the Person selling it to me not to send it and send me my money back??
I thank you very much for your help
Please email to: ke6yl@gmx.de
With best regards, Peter

The only difference is the included detail maps, you'll get North America included, a European one would have all of Europe included.
The Europe maps are more expensive to buy than the American ones, which explains why US iQues are cheaper then European ones.
The whole world basemap is included with both.

Actually, I also bought an imported iQue from the US.
It works fine.
All the base maps (included the European one, called " Atlantic" ) are already included on the standard set-up CD's.
You do need to buy the European City Select v6 CD's. A copy does not work, as you have to activate them via Garmin.
Also, take care you have an adapter for the charger to your electricity socket type.
If you have a problem, you will get a lot of help in this forum, and also Tech Support Europe in England is very helpful.
Good luck!
PS officially you have to pay import duties and taxes in your own country when you buy something in the States ;)

I bought my iQ here in the Netherlands and installed everything without any problems. Comes this sister of mine with an ebay bought American iQ with City Select North America v5..
Of course no Europe map and therefor (so far) pretty useless. She gave me the City Select North America since she didn't use it anyway and I tried to look what happened knowing that installing could give problems.
fine.
Installing no problem on the PC. but no luck: iQ comes back with 'can't unlock maps' but... I lost all my installed European maps too!
Tried to reinstall but no luck. I tried to install with another setup CD (her's). Then I could install the American worldbasemap AND the detailed maps. I then tried to add the European maps; iQ came back with 'can't unlock maps'.
Then I deselected the American detailed maps and uploaded my European Benelux maps again. Finely this worked (tried it for many hours to figure out what happened).
I still don't know what I did exactly but it now appears that I can have North American maps if I do not have European maps on it, and vice versa. I'm not sure what code it has in now.
Another strange thing is that it looks to me that I have quit a detailed 'American' worldbasemap for North America (much more roads, lets say national roads) then I had before with the European worldbase map. Mayby someone could tell me whether there is a difference?
I think it's very complicated to work like this, there should be a better solution then this one. I would like to buy some of the North American maps but more or less the cities like NY and LA rather than a whole continent. I think the price of the European Map is even more expensive for US iQ owners.
Remind: on the peer-to-peer networks, I just opened one, I find wilst typing this, at least 300 (max.browsing) garmin products offered (I don't think it's all working).
BTW her's is still not working...

I have the European City Select and the NA City Select, work with both and no problem at all. As a basemap I have the world.
I think you have a problem with unlock codes. An unlock code is for maps and one serial iQue, do not work with other iQue.
Your could have unlocked your sister iQue USA maps for your iQue as a second unit and that aplys to the contrary with your European Maps.

thanks Holdago,
This was also the advice my supplier gave to me, so this will be the solution. But I couldn't find all this in the manual... (I think).

If you have two iQues, one European and one US, then you do the following:
Enter the unlock codes for the European and the US unit into Mapinstall/Unlock wizard/Mapsource. Whichever will do the same job.
Then regsiter both map products at Garmin's website. By doing that, you'll become entitled to using the second unlock code for each map product.
Now supply the serial number of the European iQue together with the US maps, and vice versa. Enter both of the obtained unlock codes into your mapping program.
After doing this, mapsets generated from either of your CS products will contain both of the entered unlock codes, which means that the maps will work in either of your iQues. You can actually exchange the SD cards in the two iQues, and the maps will continue to work in the other unit.
