I have been looking at everyone idea of the ideal car mount for some time trying to find something that I thought would work for me.

The beanbag is great, but it has slid off the dash before. I am also concerned with that high of a location in the summer. I have a convertible. I think it might be better mounted lower.

I found this vent clip mount that I "think" will work very well.
I plan to mount the removeable button included to the back of a extra Garmin base that I bought. That way I can still use the 12v with the speaker. And most of it (if not all of it) can be easily removed when not in use.

What do you think?

Robin, I have that clip, I don't use it. It allowed too much wiggle. That's why I ended up with the Proclip, so I could use the Garmin iQue mount from the beanbag. Much more stable. YMMV.

I have this clip and am fairly pleased with it's operation. I detailed my install in this thread. (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=32439&highlight=the+clip)

Ann,

Too much wiggle in what way? Side to side? Maybe that depends on the type of vent your car has. My vent has vertical as well as horizonal grill. The horizonal are permanent and the verticle move to direct the air. I was thinking that if I can space the clips right it won't move very much. I will just have to wait and see I guess.

I looked at the Proclip. I actually even ordered it. But I sent it back unused. I thought that arrangment placed the iQue too low and too far away. I have the over 50 eyes ya know (smile).

If this arrangement works, it will place the iQue right to the side of my steering wheel.

Just a thought really.....

will not the cold / warm air from the vents have any affect on the Q ??
Ofcourse, one can just block that particular vent...

I do know what you mean about the eyes, mine are almost 50, but very farsighted and astigmatized....getting old is not for sissies! :p

Ofcourse, one can just block that particular vent... You are right! Heat degrades the lifetime of the Li-Ion-Battery.

I bought the "Beanbag" which I put between the front seats of our cars & connect to Gilson antenna and Power plug (sometimes I use a 12V "jumpstart" battery that I stick in the backseat).

Between the front seats helps with glare.

But I'm looking for something more portable between cars and in luggage. I did buy the Garmin "StreetPilotGPS swivel base mount Part #010-10199-02 which would allow me to use the autonav kit without the beanbag. That's lots less luggage but I'm still looking for something I can attach it with that will be either disposable or very small/light and work in most cars (think rental).

For protection outside the car I bought the Nutshell case which provides good protection and will fit in a shirt pocket.
