Hi guys

Recently, I reset my Psion 5mx by removing all batteries and restoered my original data to it. So far so good ...

This morning, I tried to set-up Email to send SMS'es so I went into the SMS account settings and pushed the Edit button to enter my SMS Centre number.

And Bang !!! Email blew-up on me displaying an error box showing the following.

Program: Email
Reason Code : E32USER-CBase
Reason Number: 21

I've tried to enter my SMS Centre number a few times with and without my Nokia 7110 being in range of the IrDA port on the 5mx and every time the above error occurs.

I always thought EPOC was stable ... but now I woinder ...

Any help greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Recently, I reset my Psion 5mx by removing all batteries and restoered my original data to it. Why did you do this, as a matter of interest? Obviously if there was some corruption or file conflict, restoring your original data has simply restored the problem too.
And Bang !!! Email blew-up on me I do hope that you wear proper protective clothing while operating such dangerous machinery as a Psion :)

Seriously, unless it is essential that you keep existing messages, I would suggest you close the Email application, delete the "Mail" folder in C:\System\Mail and then open Email again in its virgin state with no messages or settings and start again. Normally, you should let the Psion read the SMS Centre number from the phone and then, if it isn't in the correct Country|Area|Number format, but without the leading plus sign, edit it to the correct format.

Hi Mike

Many thanks for your reply.

I tried your suggestion but that didn't solve the problem. I then soft-reseted my machine but this didn't work either. Finnaly, I hard-reseted the Psion and attempted to set-up Email before restoring my data. Well that didn't work either.

Kind regards

eek! This sounds really quite nasty so let me make sure I understand you correctly.

Are you saying that even on a 'vanilla' hard-resetted 5mx, without having done any other configuration (specifically modems and internet settings in control panel), you open the Email app, go to SMS settings and click Edit service centre address, and you get the crash?

Doing a comparison on my netBook, I realise that at this point it attempts to communicate with the mobile phone. I presume you're using IR to talk to your phone. Does the crash occur on the vanilla 5mx even if the phone is not available? I'm trying to identify whether or not the phone can be blamed for the crash, since I know that the 7110 firmware was distinctly shonky in its earlier releases...
