I recently downloaded the Mapsource update, being a previous Garmin eMap owner (or current, although it is gathering dust since I got my Que...anyone wanna buy?:) ), and installed the Topo patch update on Garmin's site, ultimately reloading my topo and CitySelect maps to my SD card. Now, when I go to the map, select pref., detailed maps and then pref. again....where it used to say Enable U.S. Topo (under Enable City Select), it now says Enable {then a string of garbage characters}. Has anyone seen this before? The maps all seem to work fine though and selecting that link still enables Topo, weird huh?

Can't believe I've stumped the panel, although I admit this was (is) a rather obscure issue. Garmin's tech support seemed stumped too, just reinstall the maps, is all they could come up with.....that didn't work either. Thought I'd add more detail, just for info's sake. The only issue continues to be just the labeling of the "Enable topo" (the word topo is replaced with either no characters, or garbage....varies), under the detailed maps, preferences section. The maps continue to load and work normally, or seem to.
I have approximately 30 MB of combined map data, other than the World map basemap. The detailed data includes the CitySelect data surrounding Jacksonville, Florida (a large selection of several maps, all the way down to Daytona and up to the Georgia line), and CitySelect data leading out I-10, all the way over to I-75 and then up to and including the major Metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia area. I then have a corresponding set of topo data loaded arround Jacksonville, and again surrounding Metro Atlanta, into north Georgia.
What, the heck....if anyone sees anything similar...let me know.

I've tried some Topo maps, just to test. I haven't been in the US with my iQue, so nothing more to do than just test.
But that worked fine. The patch is applied to these maps.

Yes, the US Topo has been working on my iQue without any problem (other than the fact that it is very low resolution maps - only 1:100K scale). I haven't seen the problem mentioned here.

Thanks to both of you for responding.....I guess I can't complain since in all other aspects (other than the weird way it is, or isn't displaying the word topo) the Maps, etc. still work fine. I guess I was just concerned that it might be an indicator of a future (or hidden) problem.

It would seem to me that handling the display and selection of preference options (painting the menus/screens, editing the entries) would be the job of the Palm OS, not the Topo data being loaded and reloaded. Perhaps one of the files that makes up the Palm OS is corrupted. It seems that the OS knows the Topo data is there because it tries to paint the option box, but where ever it gets the text for the box from, is corrupted (or perhaps the pointer to the text is corrupted). It would seem that a Hard reset followed by either hotsync'ing to a backup from before the problem began or loading a clean copy of the OS, followed by your data.
Since you can see that I am very new to the Wonderful World of Q (16 days), I would appreciate it if one of the great veterans out there, who speaks better iQue that I, would take this idea and expand on its potential for reality. If it seems reasonable, perhaps a process could be provided for those of us who aren't quite there yet...
Great forum all!! Everyone has been lots of help as I've wander the road to iQue nirvana. Thanks for helping me find the path.
