Acquiring Sattelites

HI Can someone tell me why sometimes I can aquire the sattelites very fast and other times it can take several minutes. There seems to be no rhymn or reason to this. I can be home and one time it will aquire really fast and other times very slowly. Always have an open sky. Sometimes I can even travel more than the 500 miles and have it aquire fast and other times more slowly. I would expect that behavior when traveling but not at home.

The number of easily received satellites, i.e. these being fairly high on the sky, changes from one moment to the other.

It's also much faster if you have recently aquired, last few hours, then if you are haven't.
