I just bought the E330 and have been playing with it all afternoon, this is the best running PocketPC yet. Below is a breakdown on what I have found out so far..........
1. The Screen is wonderfull, it is bright and clear, (No Cleartype blur that was on the E310)
2. I have found Several games that run faster on the E330 than on the E740.
3. The speaker is way louder that the E740's
4. Divx player runs smoothly when watching AVI's
5. The Voice recorder is clearer than my E740's and as a result Voice reconition software is working great. (IBM VIA VOICE)
6. The Media player is 8.5, and it plays great.
All in all this is a great PDA, I belive that Toshiba is going to be the PocketPC version of The Sony for Palm.................

I was wondering what kind of expansion slots does the e330 have.

Can you tell me the difference between the exact difference e330 and the e335. How much did u buys yours for? $325 or more? Media player is 8.5 is that out already? Is there any difference between 8.5 and 8? Thank you

The only difference between the e330 and e335 is software, you get Photo Base with the e335, as for the new media player it seems to run movies better, sharper and clearer.... I wonder if the new player has something in it for X processors ?
I paid 350.00 after mail in $50.00, I got it at Best Buys

Thanks for the write-up on the new 330 - looks like a great device.
I've had a Palm in the past (didn't like it that much) and I'm ready to try again with a PDA.
I'm on the fence about whether to wait for a decent combo cell phone and PDA or get a PDA for now.
The iPaqs have great screens, but I find them a bit heavy and also expen$ive.
So the 330 looks like a good bet for me, but one question... I believe this (and most PocketPC's?) doesn't have a backup battery, so if it drains I lose everything on it, is that right? If so, this seems like a HUGE problem.
Please try to convince me why it isn't and why I should get a 330. :D
Thanks!
By the way, I already like Toshiba as a brand because I have two of their DVD players.
Their 740 looked like a good PDA with the built in wifi but seems to have some problems. Also, it looks like wifi really isn't that useful (or am I missing something? Surfing with one of these devices seems cumbersome - I tried it with an iPaq when it was in its cradle - through the PC's connectivity).

The Battery issue is another great Toshiba Plus, there is a backup program in the Toshiba, I can backup my entire PDA , programs and Data, in less than five minuets, it can restore in less than two. So if you do lose power it is no real big deal. And even a palm will lose it's data if the battery runs out, it just has the ability to restore on the next sync. The Toshiba way doesn't need a computer to restore the data.... Just a memory card.
I have my E330 loaded with games and Programs and the file is only 8 meg.
Another great thing about the Toshiba line is that it uses the same power connector as the Ipaq line, so you can buy 3rd party chargers for the Ipaq and save money, I use a Ipaq car adapter to charge my E330 on the road...........................
:p

Very helpful info, thanks!!!
Now I'm also looking at the cool new Sony NX70V! :D
If you had to give a couple of top reasons to choose PocketPC over Palm OS, what would they be?

Actually I'm not a Palm hater like some PPC fans are, My wife carries a NRV70, and I have the E330. I have owned one of every PDA that has been made, Both Palm and PPC. They both have some great points and some not so great points, Here are a few, and you can choose between.
Palm Pros
1. Dependable, pure and simple, they just work, it is rare to have one crash.
2. It does a Backup every time you Sync, a full backup in seconds.
3. Software, Software, and more Software they have more programs than PPC.
4. Battery Life, hands down Palm owns the Battery war, but the NR70V is about the same as a E330.
Pocket PC Pros
1. Built in Word and Excel, yes it is true that there are programs that allow the palm to work word and Excel but they are seprate purchases and need a converter to make them work, PPC does not.
2. Multi Media, Hands down PPC beats Palm in MP3's and Movies, True some Palms can do MP3's and Movies, but hands down The PPC has better Play back. Only PPC does DIVX moves, this allows a two hour movie on 128 SD.....At high quality
3. Microsoft intracration, the media player can convert MP3's right on the fly, and the PPC is seen like a hard drive so file converting is easy.
4. Voice recording, and Voice commands, right now only PPC can do both, but the new Palm OS 5 will allow this on palms but the PPC has had it and already has software to allow Voice commands.
5. Killer games, it's true that palm has more games but they are more arcade like, the PPC games are more like regular computer games.
The last thing to think about is why is palm moving to a more PPC platform, and do you want to buy a PDA that has a new OS that hasn't already been tested to work. I can not help but to wonder what bugs the new Palm OS will have, how compatable will it be with all that existing software. So why take a chance on a unkown, I can think of nothing Palm can do that PPC can not.....
One last thing, with the price you save between a NR70v and a e330 you could buy a real nice Digital camera and have way better pictures than the sony can provide, they are pretty bad.
I hope this helped

Excellent - really appreciated. One correction, I mentioned the new Sony N*X*70V which has a much better digital camera in it than the older NR70V. There's also an NX60 which doesn't have the camera but does have everything else.
I also used to think Palm's only had 20MHz type processors, but that new Sony is up to 200MHz now, so the speed diff. is less than before.

The Picture for the NX line is only 640 by 480, My 2nd grader has a better digital camera. But the 200 mhz processor is a vast improvement, but how will that effect the old programs.... and one thing to think about when you carry the NX or NR70, it gets real old having to open and spin the display to take a quick look at a calander or a phone number...........the size of the NR/NX line is a real factor.

OK, getting back to the Toshiba E330. What is battery life really like in typical usage? When I say typical, I'm a busy person at work, with meetings where I would hope to use the unit most, for notes, tasks, checking calendars, etc. Will I have to recharge it during the day or will it last a couple of days??
Also, you mentioned putting a movie on a memory card, is there enough battery power to play the whole movie!?
I guess I'm not sure how much I'd use it for games, videos, photos, etc., although it would be cool to be able to carry around some pictures with me.
It's also too bad the current cell phone / PDA combos are either huge, expensive, or lame (i.e., sprint based).
I think ideally we all want a PDA that's a cell phone and is connected to the internet all the time for a reasonable price for the unit and the monthly fees. Right now we're not there I guess.

At this point I think I'm leaning toward a Treo 90 - I think I'd prefer a keyboard to 'typing'/scratching/etc. with a stylus and I expect that PDA to have much better battery life than a PocketPC.
Media Player 8.5 is out, but only to manufacturers only, it's actually part of the PPC2K2 update from Microsoft. So users will have to wait for manufacturers to put out updates for specific units.
oh, forgot to mention that E740 users can now send back their divice to Toshiba for recall if u fall into those range of serial numbers. Here's the best part, Toshiba will perform a free ROM upgrade (PPC2K2 update, with Media Player 8.5) which none of the manufacturers have it out yet. Even Toshiba haven't made it available for public download (don't ask me why). So I am actually "feeling lucky" : ) that my E740 falls into recall.
To all the people here, WASSSSSSUP!!!
I actually just joined the PPC universe, with the E740 as my first PPC device. so i guess i will have some stupid questions out very soon. : )
Also, the E740 rocks!!!

Ok cool. Does any one know if that new update has been realsed for the Maestro/e570? Or if i Microsoft has a secret download site where i can download it like the had for activesync 3.6? Thank you.
i think so far Toshiba only has the new ROM for E740, haven't heard at all they r doing it with other devices. so unless u fall into the recall range, u will have to wait about 2-3 more mths. microsoft is only releasing the PPC2k2 update to manufacturers only, no plan for public. guess the manufacturers have to fine tune it for specific devices

Does the e330? Come with that new rom?
about the E330, i think they do have the new ROM, considering that Microsoft has already released the new PPC2k2 update to the manufacturers. I m not 100% on this, i m sure u can just give Toshiba a ring to confirm.
