Serial #9028xxxx running R3.

A few problems in the past with the flip-up antenna but nothing that a flip-down followed by a flip-up did not resolve. Now, the flip-up seems more erratic than usual and when flipped-up it often says GPS is Off. I never have a problem with the Gilsson. When the flip-up does work, the acquisition performs as sweet as ever.

I have had a good run with mine since September last year so maybe I'm one of the Last of the Mohicans with a 9028xxxx spirit that has now gone to the great council fire to smoke pipes and Dance With Satellites.:)

Is this the end of mine?

Is this the end of mine? That's what you get for chortling about having one of the oldest iQues in that thread! ;) I'm afraid it's RMA time for you. But don't forget, I believe the warranty clock restarts when you RMA.

There's the rub Ann! Maybe it's because I do have one of the 'oldest' iQues. Problem is, I don't know how this RMA thing works. Do they just want the iQue? The CD's? And I suppose they need to give me new unlock codes for a replacement? Unless of course they try to 'fix' the problem? Or do they just call it quits and send a brand new unit back? Or will it be reconditioned unit? I'm just a bit puzzled what the RMA policy has been like in the past? Looks like a phone call to HQ is in order!

Depends on what they find, they may fix yours, or you may get a new one. If it's a new one, then you get new unlock codes. I think they're issuing new ones, not refurbs, at least I know mine was brandy-new. Time to phone HQ!

I wonder about something here. If they refurb, then maybe someone else out there might get mine, and I might get yours!

Since yours works for the most part, you can have them send you a new unit (complete with everything) secured by credit card. Then when you get the new one, you can return your old one to them, when they receive it they will credit your card back.

Oh contraire. From Garmin's website:

Every GarminŽ product is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of retail purchase

Interpreting the warranty year has been discused on the forum months ago.

As Garmin states "date of retail purchase" does not refer to the replaced new unit which comes from GARMIN as a new product, so the warranty for it will have to be the date it reaches your hand.

I got a new GPS replacing one with a failiure, went to Garmin registration form and clearly wrote the actual date, so a year of warranty from that date. That is my apreciation.

Yes, to the letter of the law it would be from the original purchase date.

However... do you really think that with the great customer service Garmin has shown that they wouldn't work with you on this? I would think that they would.

The letter of the law is 1 year from original purchase OR x number of days since RMA whichever is greater.

I think x number is 90, but not sure. I can check when I get home, it's on the paperwork you get back after doing an RMA.

And yes Garmin will work with you on that.

I recieved my que as a gift during Christmas. There is nothing really wrong with it, except the charging pin (it fell out). I would like to RMA it as soon as my university is out for the summer. Does this mean that I have until about December next year to RMA my que?
Has anyone noticed any hardware improvements after they got their new unit back? I really don't want to RMA my unit if I will get a substandard que as a replacement.
My serial is 9021****
Thanks for your help,
Russ

Yes, that's what I understood, too. I asked when I RMA'd for the second time, and they told me the clock reset with the new unit (and it is a new unit).

I have registered all the units that I have had and that is about 6 new ones out of the 10 RMA's. No where does it say warranty of 90 days on the papers I recieved back from Garmin. The unit should work for at least one year from its birth or when you recieved it. The last one I got was a 9141 and it was a refurbished unit they said after telling me when they sent it that they were sending me a brand new one. I am not complaining about it as it has been the best one so far. I told them I don't care if it is the first one made as long as it keeps working good and it has no huge blemishes on it. :D

Almost two months ago I was in here asking questions on how to RMA this puppy. I actually got an RMA number from Olathe but couldn't let go because I was always travelling at the time. This time I think I'm going to do it.

I'm asking for some recommendations:
1) I'd like to do the thing where they ship me a new unit guaranteed by credit card, but doing this from Canada, how would you avoid the duties problem?

2) If doing #1, should I send the whole box back or just the unit itself?

Anyone know if there is a recall on the 9020XXXX units. It was purchased in Aug.03. Must have been in the first batch made.

Thanks
