It doesn't matter if the engine is off or is running. I make sure I touch the contact points before I plug it in. Same with the external antenna. When I get the iQue in the cradle, it is recovering from a reset. About 50% of the time.

If this indicates a static discharge problem, then I'll forever be paranoid about the integrity of the internal antenna.

It certainly is disconcerting of see all these resets. Any ideas on what else to try?

Run a brief experiement: Disconnect the cradle from the power plug (cig lighter) and then put the Que into the cradle. Note any resets. Then plug the cable in and see if this causes the reset.

If it does - I'd say there is another "voltage" problem. Is the plug "live" all of the time? Or is it on a delay timer that goes off after about 10 minutes and comes on when the key is turned to Accessory or Ignition?

If the Que is reseting with a constantly live scenario then the grounding of the power accessory may be suspect.

There's also a known problem, which causes resets occasionally when turning the unit on with the GPS antenna enabled/connected. Since it's usually easier to unfold/connect the antenna first, then put the unit in the cradle, that's often the case when you do turn the iQue on in the car cradle.

Try putting it in the cradle as usual, but don't use the GPS function, alternatively unfold/connect the antenna five seconds after turning the iQue on.
Or turn the iQue on, then open the antenna, then install it in the cradle. In that case the GPS start has "settled" when the unit comes into the cradle.

I had exactly the same problem as you describe. Doing as I describe hasn't eliminated it, but reduced it to a fraction of the degree of annoyance as it used to be.
