It's not quite 6 months since I bought my Palm m130 and my digitizer is beginning to go bad. I contacted Palm because I'm well within my warranty period, and they asked me to try a HARD RESET before giving up on my m130 digitizer problem. (If the hard reset fails to correct the problem, they'll be sending me a replacement m130.)

As a longtime Palm user, I have many different apps on my Palm, I use 3rd party conduits for the calendar, contact and todo functions, and I can ill afford to lose what I've got. I am very uncomfortable doing the hard reset until I have an easily restorable COMPLETE backup of all apps and settings (i.e., not just a backup of the data).

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good way to do a full backup? Is there a preferred program out there for doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Bill,
YOu have a variety of ways to be assured that all your apps will be retained.
My choice would be Backup Buddy from BlueNomad.com which will allow you to set what is and what isn't backed up onto the PC. You of course will want to set it for all of your apps to back up. I believe that is the default. ONce you have hotsynced with Backup Buddy running on your PC you can rest assured that after a hard reset all of your apps will be automatically reinstalled.

If you are using a memory card, you can also use BackupBuddy VFS (http://www.bluenomad.com)

I started using the free version, but registered it when it saved the day when my original m130's battery failed, and the unit would only run in the cradle.

The extra features make it worth registering, but in it's free form it also rocks.

Thanks, DrMud and stryder. Backup Buddy worked like a charm for me...giving me better and more predictable results than simply using Palm's hotsync to restore things. I also like how it can back everything up onto my MultiMedia Card. (I have it set so that it automatically backs up everyting on my Palm each morning at 1:00 a.m. ... no muss, no fuss.)

I know I would be a very nervous Palm owner if it were not for the reassurance that Backup Buddy gives.
I have about 60 apps on my 515 and do not want to imagine finding myself in a position that would require me to install them all again from scratch.
