Hi there,
I have now bought my Zire 21 and thanks to Abid’s advice also purchased Documents to Go. It was worth the extra cash since I can view my office stuff perfectly! Now I have a question about the battery. Should I wait until it goes completely off in order to recharge? If not, when would be the proper time to recharge? If I let the battery go off, will I lose my data and installed programs or will they stay in the memory even without a charged battery? These are just some points of curiosity. :D
Thanks in advance for any help.

purchase Docs to go? why? just use serials 2000! it gives you serials free.
about battery and recharging- kinda obvious, but if you're a first time user, when your batt gets low the palm will bring up a dialogue box telling you to "charge the battery asap or you will lose data" or something like that.

and yes, you will lose all of your data and programs and stuff if you let the battery go out

When all those hard working developers get cheated out, they are going to stop making quality software. That's when Serials 2000 is going to fail, when there's crappy software around.
I am also pretty certain that Serials 2000 is illegal and you shouldn't post about it on these forums. I am perfectly fine about it, but the mods here probably wouldn't like it;)
Carlos_fig: You should charge the battery as soon as possible. Whenever you are near an outlet, you should charge the batteries. These Lithium Ion batteries love to get a few volts of charge whenever possible;). And true, if you completely drain the batteries, all data will be lost.

screw the developers! free serials! i used it with Docs To Go. anyhows, abid's right- you should charge whenever possible. Charging it too often, however, will result in power loss of the battery, meaning it wont last as long as it did before. As for me, i just charge it when it tells me too, so i can get the full usage out of my battery. So in closing :) , just charge it when ever you feel it needs to be charged. that way you'll get the full batt usage- it runs for about 2 weeks for me before i have to charge it up again, and i'm a pretty avid user.

Why? There would be no software without them.

Thanks for all your help guys. Yes, I am a first time user of PDAs, It's nice to know that it will tell me when it needs a recharge. I charged it for three hours on its first charge and it was at about 50% after only two days, so I just pluged it in last night and let it charge overnight. It's nice to know that I can charge at any time if I want, unlike my old Cell Phone, that I had to almost drain before charging. Those Lithium batteries seem to be very good! :)
Well, thanks a lot for the info. Will be keeping an eye on this forum :D

lka1988,
I'm sure you're aware that any mentioning of serials, warez, and whatnot are prohibited on PDAStreet. You should've read the rules before you registered. Also, many of us here reading and posting in these fourms, are developers for Palm OS applications.

About the battery question, here's one small tip. If the unit is fairly new, you should charge the battery when you first get it, then let it drain all the way down (until you get the low-battery warning), then recharge all the way. Do this several times (between 3 to 5 times). The reason for doing this is because lithiums 'learn' how much power they hold within the first few charging sessions. If you haven't done this, you should do so now. I believe it also suggests this in the User's Manual.
And about Serials 2000, we don't look very highly on that type of activity as VisorSpawn said. It doesn't matter whether you think it's right or wrong, it matters because forums like these are a public service and we can't go around endorsing illegal activity. There could be legal repercussions which could cause the closing of great resources like these. I certainly don't want that to happen, do you? If anyone else has posts pertaining to the problem at hand (battery issue), feel free to post, otherwise, no more posting about Serial Codes. One of us WILL delete the posts if we see more...

Ok, I will let it get low and then recharge the next few times. Unfortunatelly there was no mention on how to recharge the battery on my manual. Maybe because my Zire 21 is manufactured here in Brazil the manual is a bit different. There is only a small "how to start" guide there. Anyway, I'm glad you mentioned it, thanks!
Cheers to all! :D

Interesting discussions on this threads.
However, I have (perhaps) a classical RTFM question.
I hotsync with USB-cable. So the Zire is recharged automatically.
Can I switch this function off ?
Thanx in advance

I was under the assumption that the Zire was recharged seperately through an AC adapter, but I suppose the USB could provide a minimal power supply. Just use the Palm as usual and wait for the "Low Battery" messages to start popping up. Then it's time to recharge. You shouldn't lose any data, but just to be safe, hotsync before you start doing this. Run this cycle about 3 times and that should do it.
