Nothing of utmost importance for iQue users this time, though.

The reason there were so many beta versions was mainly due to the T-3 and the datamanager patch kludge he had to program around. That, and the Treo 600, cost him, I'd say, about two to three months of development time. We all want him to get busy on the desktop (he is definitely working on that), and of course he's busy coding the OS6 version. Then there's the gorillas.......

Heck, I use DateBK5 to tell me when it’s an opportune time to take my underwear off, of course I keep it in my underwear set on vibrate. :D

edit: Ann, is he really going to start on the desktop version or just more talk from the CES camp?

(snip of the underwear discussion :p )

He really is working on it, from his own.....fingers! He is a one-man show, so we'll just have to sit patiently. I am sure it will be well worth the wait! And no, I haven't seen any screenshots, as soon as I do I'll let you all know.

There is another program that now integrates tightly with Datebk5. It's PhoneMagic (http://www.phonemagic.com) and while it's still low-res, it is a very nice address book enhancement. You'll have to ask for the beta for the Datebk5 integration, that should be out to the public soon.

Thanks for the heads-up, Ann!

Unfortunately, this latest beta still hasn't fixed the problem I reported back in this thread (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36501&highlight=datebk5) (4th message from the top). :(

Stymyx, did you report this to the Yahoo group?

Edit: Ah, I posted it, but I don't know what the resolution was. Do you follow the Yahoo group? Have you got the very latest beta? It's up to Rev 2 (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/datebk5-v51b-r2.zip) and he said it's the final, to be released later on this week. Do let him know that you're still having that problem!

Does anyone know a way to set Datebk5 so that the weekview always comes up in full screen mode (i.e. no virtual graffiti area) and the dayview comes up with virtual graffiti area present?

Ann, I have visited that Yahoo group, but I don't enjoy it (Yahoo's forum structure sucks out loud, IMHO). If I have some more free time at work today, I'll try to check it out. In the meantime, I'll try Rev 2.

Stymyx,
The reason it hasn’t been fixed could be that it may be peculiar to your particular setup. I haven’t been able to duplicate the problem. Do you know if others are having the same problem? Could be your database is corrupted or something else entirely.

BTW, I agree, the way the Yahoo groups function sucks compared to most esp., here. Maybe Ann can talk CES into joining us?

I absolutely agree, the Yahoo setup sucks! What I do is read it via gmane.org (http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.handhelds.palm.datebk) , I prefer to use it in my newsreader, but you can also read it on the gmane.org website. It threads better and there’s no annoying ads. You can’t post or reply, however, when I want to do that I do go to the Yahoo page.

As for getting CESD to post over here, I don't think he has the time. He's stretched as it is with his Datebk5 duties and the gorillas.

Even if Stymyx uses his avatar creating skills to make CES one with him being stretched by gorillas, how could he refuse?

Hello all.

Is there any way to get rid of the datebook that installs with all of the other ique programs and use only datebook5 or ksdatebook. If I try to delete the standard datebook with the ique it says I can't delete it because it is on ROM. I don't really want it cluttering up the screen if I am not using it.

Thanks

No and you don’t want to. Remember DateBK5 rides on top of the native databases and would not function without it.

Some of the earlier betas had the VG area pop up all the time when entering DB5. That has been fixed in the last several betas.

There is a way (using the prefs) to have DB5 start in any particular view, including the weekly view. If the VG area was collapsed when entering DB5, it remains collapsed. The way DB5 is now set up, the VG area only shows up when there is a need to enter data, such as entering an event, a ToDo, Address Book entry or Memo. You can save several views in DB5 to suit various needs. In my opinion, it is a great app and highly configurable. Learning curve is high (read the manual, it is long but detailed) but that is what you get with a powerful app. I doubt there are very many users that utilize the full functionality of DB5 -- it is crammed with features.

As said earlier, CESD has used the Yahoo group extensively for the beta process, answering nearly every comment and bug report. I've never seen better support from a programmer.

The next official release, v51b, should be on the street very soon, probably by the end of the week. CESD has talked about the development of the desktop version (says he is actively working on it) and I hope once the Palm version is out, he works more on that. I use the Palm desktop extensively and after using the Palm version of DB5, the desktop pales in capability.

If you're looking for a DateBook replacement, try DB5. I believe you get 30 days of trial with no nag screens or crippled functionality (not entirely sure because I've been a registered user for years).

I think there is a lot for iQue owners here. I iQue is one of the target devices for this release.

With DB5, you get an unlimited trial time. But the second half of each month, not everything works in the program, and there are nag screens.
Unless the policy has changed?

MHS

I just looked at the manual. The trial period is 45 days. For the first 30 you get full functionality, no nag screens. At 30 days you get one nag screen telling you that there are 2 weeks left in the trial -- still have full functionality. After the 45 days you get nag screens and you lose functionality for the last two weeks of each month.

If you don't like it, just delete it. DB5 uses the standard DateBook database so the standard DateBook will always have all your data.

Yes, but then what you say is somewhat contradictionary to itself. It does imply that the trial period is forever, just that the second half of each month during the trial (except the first trial month, of course), the program isn't fully functional.

MHS

Even shareware that has no crippling function whatsoever may have a trial period of whatever the author says it is, after which you are expected to pay for it. An honest person would pay for the app if used beyond the trial period even if the functionality wasn't crippled or there were no nag screens.

I believe the manual says the DB5 trial period is 45 days. I guess I don't see the inconsistency.

Sorry for being too obscure.
I compared it to those programs that cease to operate completely, when the trial period is over. Some programs just roll over, take down the tent, cease to exist, don't breathe any more.

DateBK5 keeps on ticking, but not at full rate 50% of the time, once the trial is "over".
That's what I meant with the word "inconsistent". Different programs implement the trial period in different ways. They aren't consistent.

You understand me now, I hope. I think we both were correct, just didn't understand each other completely.

There is a "real" release of version 5.1b of DateBK5 available now.
