went out to find a few caches this weekend, and I've got to say having cachemate is a plus.. very slick!.. The iQue kept shutting off (really just going to sleep, as it still was recieving sat signals when turned back on). It only seemed to do this using cachemate. Is that a battery saving feature of cachemate, or is that a battery saving feature of release 3? since it didn't do that with release 2 when using the GPS without external power.

In R3, Prefs / General, you have a choice of "Auto-off After" = 10 sec, 1 min, 2 min & 3 min. Never seen R2...

That's a battery saving feature of the iQue. There are freeware program available to disable the autoshutoff if you really want to. So how did it go using your iQue to go geocaching? I personally think it's the best GPS going for urban caching. I'll leave it at home when I go into the mountains though and take the 76S.

It's 30 secs, 1,2 + 3 min.

FUNBOB- It worked great, and I loved having the notes right there in front of me for what to look for. I still have a III+, so if I ever go out in the wilderness, and I know there's a chance of breaking it/getting it wet/losing it, I'll probably take that one.. However, I think with a ziplock bag over it, and an external battery, it'll do just fine for most hikes. The battery life is abysmal though. I think I was out for an hour and a half this weekend, and it was showing maybe 1/3 battery life left..

I am expecting my Aquapac this weekend and by that time my home made rerad will also be ready. I will post some pictures of the hiking/geocaching setup once done. With the battery extender, it works very well though.
