i began to wonder just how safe is a psion for e-mail etc.. How safe is any other email client? Almost all email is sent as plain ASCII text, although HTML mail also has the formatting tags in it.

What in particular are you trying to protect? The machine's main password protection is supposed to be very secure, the password protection in those apps which support it is reasonably secure. The main security exposure is probably the CF disk in those devices which use one (and that excludes the Revo and Mako) because it can be put into another Psion which isn't password protected and files opened.

As far as email being checked by a virus protection program automatically on retrieval and sending, I don't believe that there is a current program that will do that.

If you are interested in file encryption in general, you might try the following:

1. Encrypt-It - a file encryption program from www.pocketiq.com
2. RMRFile/Zip - .zip files created with these programs can be encoded and pw protected - this might be beneficial for sending attachments, etc. - can be downloaded www.rmrsoft.com

Also, if you are interested in trying to write your own encryption programs - OPL source code on using RC4 (an encryption algorhythm) may be downloaded freely from fatcatz (www.fatcatz.com - I think).

Hope this helps.

Check this article at foxpop for third party security solutions for EPOC:

http://www.foxpop.ndirect.co.uk/thirdparty/security01.htm

This doesn't cover email security, but as Mike says as long as your messge store is held on C and you have a nice strong system password set to display every time the Revo is turned on, then nobody should be able to get at your emails.
