sorry for dumb questions, but my user manual didn't cover this. I have a Jornada 54*. It seems to not like most software; when I drag files to the device, they don't load, tho the pc says that conversion is taking place. of all the games & other I've tried, only "netwalk" has run.

what types of software do I need? what is mips & arm? why won't the exe programs run?

also for compactflash cards - aside from getting type 1, do I have to be careful or should any windows ce stuff work?

thanks.

I'm not the sharpest but will give it a stab. Mips, Arm and Sh3 are different types of processors. You need to know what your's is and get software for it. I THINK yours is an SH3, your book should show somewhere - most likely in the specifications.

I haven't installed too many programs, but the ones I have installed are install on your pc then when you run active sync it asks to set up a partnership and will somewhere in the process ask if you want to install the programs to your handheld.

As for files like text etc. in active sync there is an explorer button which you may be using to drop and drag stuff. I've never had a problem doing this. Have you looked around your handheld with explorer and see if they are being placed somewhere else - like in my documents or text in my documents. Some set up two my documents directories.

Trust someone with more smarts than I shows up to give you more help.

Greetings;

I am an iPAQ man but have found some info for your Jornada 540 series, it runs a 133 MHz SH3 processor wich means that you can only use software designed for a SH3 processor.

As for the CF card any brand for the type needed will work I have a Viking and a Scandisk and have had no problems.
