Hi,
My palm is T3 & I would like to buy external memory card & save my txt files on it (by a prc file). should I buy SD card?
Is it right that some models of SD cards have conflict with palms? If that's right, which model is suitable for T3?
I found "extrim" (64/128 Meg.) & "pretec" (128 Meg.) in our country. are these models OK?

thanks in advance,
Sadegh

i use lexar 512M and it is quite excellent, fast. $150. i use it for mp3s and all my work files (.pdf, .doc, .xls, .txt, .jpg). i bought a pny sd card reader ($15, plugs into your usb port, no driver installation on win2k and xp, shows up as a removable drive on your my computer) and voila you have a 512M floppy drive.
before i used san disk with some problems.

Never heard of those brands I'm afraid, however, I'm sure they would be OK.

There was an issue when the T3 was 1st released last summer on the compatibility of some larger SD cards. This has been fully solved with an upgrade to the palm T3 RAM, and even if you have an 'old' T3, you can download an upgrade for it from their web site. (Mine was bought last December and was already upgraded)

(Don't worry about installing the upgrade - if your T3 doesn't need it, it will simply come up with a message that 'upgrade is not required')

I use a SanDisk 256Mb card and store videos, MP3's and loads of other files etc with no problems whatsoever.

If your T3 is bug free, you should have no issues, if its a little 'buggy', cards just seem to amplify the problems!

Good luck..

I am (currently) using 256MB SanDisks (yes I know that popular opinion is against them!), and tried the swaping files via card reader as suggested above. Problem is, when I select the files on the PDA it takes in excess of 90 secs for the pages to come up! Have just tried to select files (D2G files) on the PDA itself, and it too is taking over 90 secs..in fact it has just invoke my CRASH program (at least that's working!).

Is the general advice that I need the 'patch' from PalmOne, or do I delete D2G, as I do know that there is now an upgrade to the program, or could this purely be the fault of the SD.

As always, your advice is very much appreciated.

What version of Docs2Go are you currently using?

The T3 is supplied with v6.002, but there are loads of issues with this version - not least, crashing when trying to use the 'find' function.

You can update for free on the official DataViz web site, you just need to officuially register your current version. I am now using v6.005 with no problems, although even this has now just been superceded with v6.008.

Good luck...

Version I'm currently running is ver 6.005(695), and as soon as my PC is up and running again (currently in casualty.......), I'll upgrade. I was just wondering if anyone else has hit this problem?

I debated the 6.005>6.008 upgrade but took it since it's free -- there is less "splash screen" hesitation now. 6.008 does give two plug-ins (which I didn't delete, but you probably could delte them, especially if you don't tie in spreadsheets with email).

It is for the purpose, I believe, of emailing sheets on the T3.

I am rapidly becoming a Docs2Go fan since some bugs have been fixed and 6.008 is worth the hassle of upgrading. It overlays on top of your current PC and Palm installations; for those of you with Docs2Go in ROM, you'll have two copies just like with 6.002>6.005. For those of you with Docs2Go in RAM, it will obviously replace it.

ON THE SUBJECT OF SD CARDS:
If Dropshort is doing ok with SanDisk he's lucky and that's good. If you don't have problems now, Dropshort -- you probably won't. They surface with SanDisk in the first week (mine did, anyway -- card unreadable, not able to be formatted on palm or pc -- hopeless.) Lexar use Panasonic and SanDisk and you don't know which you'll get until you open the package.

I prefer Panasonic (I have a 256) because it is BLINDINGLY fast and reliable. Responds well to Norton Speed disk defragging. More positive click on the T3 slot, better, firmer plastic, better connecting terminals. They run around $75. I didn't go for 512 because it seems to be an awful lot of info on a card that "could" go bad; however that will be the norm pretty quick, especially for those units with cameras or if you like music stored on there.

Ta PTL,

Haven't had too many problems with the SAnDisk, although with all the bad press it gets I'm holding my breath!

Main problem from me was the damn ages the D2G takes to load up. Reckon a fresh upgrade might clear it (120 secs to open a document must be a joke right? And it's not just off the SD!)

Sorry if this posting is annoying anyone who thinks I'm going off the original thread, but my initial worry was that it may be an SD matter!)

120 secs to open a document must be a joke right?

Yes, it is!

I have a 120Kb document on my T3, a 125 page word document with pictures.

It takes less than 2 seconds to open..

Something on your palm ain't working like it should... sorry for your trouble.

:(
