Hi,
I have a T615C that will hotsync my mail, and my Documents to go, AvantGo, but has refused to sync any of the "buttoned" features such as Datebook, or memo, or ToDo, etc. I did a soft reset, rebooted desktop machine, rechecked my Hotsync Setup, Custom settings, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
Also, when in the Custom setup...on the 4 Intellisync conduits, it will not let me change the action at all. All 4 are locked in "Synchronize the Files". Is this normal? I would prefer to be able to have the Handheld overwrite the desktop.

You should be able to change the basic PIM settings (Address, Datbook, etc.), so I wonder if something is screwed up with your Hotsync software. It souds like all your setting are correct.
One thing to is that whenever you change a setting for a particular conduit, Hotsync will do it only for that one Hotsync. Then it will revert back to the original setting. You have to mark the "set as default" checkbox to keep the change fixed.

I uninstalled, and reinstalled the Palm Desktop for Sony Clie 4.0.1. I still cannot sync the the PIM software, yet everything else seems to carry over fine. I'd like to do a hard reset of the Clie, yet I don't dare without having everything backed up on the desktop. But I'm curious...yesterday I got a 64M memory stick, and I was able to make a backup to the stick(it's in a directory named MSBackup). If I were to do a hard reset, is this backup that I made all that I need to get the Clie back up and running, without loosing anything?
And on another vein....If I use the drop down menu to COPY something to the MS, it works fine, and I can see both incidences of the item on the Clie, and MS (this is good)....But when I move something to the MS, using MS GATE, then I go to the Home screen, click the top right from ALL to the MS Card. The screen is blank. But if I go into MS Gate, after it sorts, I can see everything on the MS, as well as on the "internal" memory. Why don't I see anything when looking under MS while at the home page?

My bad :o .....I just realized that the last time I installed the desktop software I selected to sync to Microsoft Outlook, not to the Palm desktop. Well, I looked in Outlook, and everything is there. So, now my question is....if I were to hard reset my Clie, can I get everythnig that is sitting in Outlook to go back into the Clie(or does it have to exist in the Palm desktop, for me to sync it back down to the Clie?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether the Palm or Outlook software is the better way to go. I only chose Outlook, because it said that was the only way to sync Email. Well it turns out all my mail is so large that the Clie clips it down to where it is uselesss to me(it's too short to read).

I don't have any experience with MS issues, but from what I understand, yes, you can restore from your backup on the MS.
Now if all your info is on Outlook and you have Hotsync working (and syncing with Outlook), then after you hard reset your Clie, it should restore everything. At least, that's what happened for me when I upgraded from my Palm III to the Clie. I just dropped the Clie into the cradle and it asked which user to sync with. I picked my name and I got all my data transferred to my new machine. If you hard reset, Hotsync should look at it as a new machine and automatically transfer the info.
Now as to which is better, personally I prefer Palm Desktop to Outlook for basic PIM - I find it less bloated. True, Outlook can sync email, but using Palm Desktop, you can sync with Outlook Express for email. The only drawback is you have to keep a second set of email addresses on Outlook Express.
True, the Clie clips mail too much in my opinion. You can increase the number of characters allowed if you're not at maximum. In the Mail application, go to Menu -> Hotsync options. Then click on the truncate button and select the largest size.

NickC...Thanks for the good info! I was not aware that I could sync using Outlook Express (which is what I use for mail on my desktop machine). I would much prefer to use the Palm Desktop as opposed to using Outlook. I also was unaware of being able to adjust the amount of characters. I'll have to give this all a try.
Thanks,
Andy

I have a problem, but it's just the opposite. I had to reformat my computer, and I have all my email on my palm. Whenever I hotsync, it overwrites all my email on the palm with the email in Outlook, (which is none). Is there a way I can sync that mail back onto my computer?
Thanks,
Aaron

Hmm.. not sure. So you have all these messages on your Palm mail app, and you want them ported back to your PC?
Within the mail app on your Palm, if you do Menu -> Options -> Hotsync options, is it set to synchronize all mails?

that just overwrites the email from my outbox on the palm to the outbox in outlook, and the inbox from outlook overwrites the email on the palm...
Every time I sync, it deletes all the inbox emails on the palm and leaves outlook alone.. =(

Once your e-mail is on the Palm, there's no way to get it back into Outlook. You can mark all messages on the Palm as unread and that will stop the Mail conduit from deleting them from the palm when you sync but it won't get them back in Outlook. The only workaround I can think of is to forward every e-mail on the Palm to yourself. This will transfer all the messages to Outlook and you can remove the forwarding there.
BTW, didn't you do a backup of Outlook before you reformated? If so, there should still be a PST file that contains your e-mail. If you didn't do a back up then shame on you. :(

Shame on me =) It was an emergency format, I couldn't save much, and emails are generally the last thing I think of.
That's a good idea, forwarding the email. Didn't occur to me. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks All,
Aaron
