I was encouraged by you guys getting all the answers in the "Ipaq and Wirelss Networking" post so I am hopeful you can help me. I have two IPAQs (3955 and 3670) which browse the Internet just fine and can see my LAN Windows98 machines, by name and by IP address, just fine but the IPAQs refuse to see my Windows 2000 Pro machine. Like the other author this is driving me crazy! I believe the problem is related to the Win2K machine and not the IPAQ but I do not no what to try. When I use Pocket PC 2002 file explorer, I can successfully open shares on 2 Win98 machines in my LAN. When I try to just to browse the Win2k machine, by name or IP address, I get the message"Network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network". The error comes up immediately and seems to indicate that the Win2k machine does not exist. It really does exist and pings by name and IP address from both the Win98 machines! The network has a LinkSys BEFW11S4 router using latest firmware and all machines access the Internet fine. The desktops all access each other, the IPAQs access the Win98 machines, everyone accesses the router, etc. , etc, but the IPAQs refuse to see the Win2K Pro machine! The only difference between the Win98 and Win2k machines connection to the net is that the Win98 are wireless and the Win2K is hard-wired. Oh yeah, and oh-by-the-way, the Win2K machine pings the IPAQs successfully too! Any ideas??

Nevermind. I noticed that an IPCONFIG/ALL showed the Win98 machines with a node type of "Broadcast" vs. the Win2k had a node type of "Peer-Peer". Searched Google for more information and found the Registry key to change on Win2K to effect this setting. The Win2K was changed to "1" [Broadcast] and the IPAQs can connect now - go configure!

On Win2K systems the registry key can be found by searching for DHCPNodeType. Values are 1 = Broadcast, 2 = Peer-Peer, 4 = Mixed, 8 = Hybrid. Funny thing is that even though the registry value was changed to 1, IPConfig/all shows the text for Node Type as "Hybrid" - but who cares, it works
