Hi all

First, just to say again what a helpful board this is, and thanks to all those who have helped me out in the past!

My wife would like to set a system password on her 5mx (problems with prying eyes at work), but as I set the password on it nearly 2 years ago and then never used it, I can't remember what it is. Is the only solution to back up and do a hard reset, or is there another way round it? What do I have to get rid of to avoid restoring the password again from the backup?

I'd be grateful for any help

Cheers

Colin

If you cannot recall the existing, but unused, password a hard reset is the only way to remove it. Restoring from backup shouldn't also restore the password because after all a backup can be restored to a new or different machine.

Quickest way, if you have a CF disk with space available, is to copy "C" drive to a folder (not the root) on the CF, hard reset then copy back the contents of the folder on "D".
